AnonymousWhat sort of tape is best for taping up the inside of rims?
Duct tape or will insulation tape do?
And how much tape is best?
The rubber bands that I bought when I had the Yokos fitted just arent cutting it. TB did warn me but I had already had the rubber bands and wanted to use them at the time:S
July 21, 2009 at 2:50 am #144622Gaffa tape works best, but insulation tape works as well .you will need to do about 3 -4 wraps around to ensure the nipples are all sufficiently covered. Also make sure that the holes for the valve and rimlock have enough clearance;)

probably Gaffa Tape as it is thicker and wider than insulation tape. (IMHO)

July 21, 2009 at 3:09 am #144633The tape tends not to move around inside at lower pressures like we run, the Rubber band is primarily designed for roadbikes that runhigher pressures and the tube doesn’t “wander” like ours do. I’ve always used electrical tape and changed it each time i change a tyre.

July 21, 2009 at 3:18 am #144640I have actually used for a few years now another tube cut across ways( as in lay it down flat and cut the outer half off so it just leaves the inner half complete with valve) it forms a heavy duty rim tape, you then ripp out the old valve and then have a hell of a time fitting it, but pinched tubes are a thing of the past then.
July 21, 2009 at 3:21 am #144642Bloody ripper idea Mr Rat, I hate pinched tubes so that is going to happen to mine next time around.

Wait till you have fitted it to a 65 rim before you thank me:laugh:
your welcome;)
July 21, 2009 at 7:27 am #144679I use lecky tape as well. I reckon 100mph tape would leave too much glue on the inside of the rim when removed.
I’ve used the tube-inside-the-tube as well, but not with ultra HD tubes…that sounds like way too much work!

I have also tried the tube inside a tube and to be honest it felt like the front wheel was totally out of balance, very unnerving. I now run Ultra HD tubes with that Green slime stuff and decent rimlocks (ie not the standard pieces of shit supplied by Michelin to GASGAS) so far so good.
