February 24, 2011 at 10:59 am #197274Beemer,
Started in trials at Denman, moved to Sydney area and joined the Lower Mountains club and now based in the Illawarra. Ive competed in club, state and in OZ titles in 2009 on my trusty TY250a! I have a 2003 Sherco as well for the State trials..All good fun. We are going to South OZ for the OZ titles this year..February 24, 2011 at 4:34 pm #197265WikdBeemer wrote:.
I say this because organisers have the inherant responsibility of the safety of the riders, like the captain of a ship is responsible for the safety of all those on his ship, I feel the same applies for trail rides in the bush as we have similar remoteness to consider.Just another 20 cents worth.
Beemer.
That’s very true on a paid ride WB, but a ride I organise I will make sure it’s safe as can be for me and any one else who is following but you are choosing to follow me of your own free will, I will help but am not responsible for you and your actions.
That’s the way it is for any OBT ride run, the person twisting the throttle is responsible no body else

When I organize a ride I feel responsible only for showing other riders the correct way, not for their personal safety.
The last thing anyone on a ride wants is an injury but we’ve all done it and it’s solely the responsabiliy of that rider. It’s a dangerous sport and I don’t believe a ride organizer is responsible for other riders if he has made the type of ride clear at the start.February 24, 2011 at 5:43 pm #197285As much as the safety of the group is a major part of ride planning once the ride begins everyone is responsible for their own safety.

Nah, just joking. On all of my rides I pitch in and help riders up and over obstacles.
Always carry my trusty slings for pulling bikes up rocks.
The grading system should put you in with simular riders of simular capabilities.
Cheers

February 24, 2011 at 6:38 pm #197233Sorry beemer, but I disagree, i’m not responsible for anyone else on a ride except myself.
I will help out whenever needed, I carry some firstaid equipment in case of an injury, but if you come for a ride with me you do so at your own risk, that way you are responsible for you own actions. I am simply going for a ride and if you come you are choosing to do so-I am not making you do it. As such we are not organising a rides, we are letting other riders know that we are going riding at a given time, place and you can join us if you wish. The extent of my responsibility is information on when the ride is going to happen and where.
The grading system is a guide only to help people make an informed decision, but once riding, things and terrain change and effectively the grading system can go out the window, it is then the sole responsibility of the rider to choose to continue or not to continue.chers Hatto

I’ve only ever b/down twice on rides and both were with you hatto and seems you r taking no responsibility for anyone other than urself I’ll be going with beemer on future rides he sounds like a thoughtful caring kinda guy
and one other thing that is my wife and i’m not sharing
February 24, 2011 at 9:41 pm #197234nah sorry beemer
All due care but every rider is responsible for their own wellbeing
might be a bit off course but the world is in such disrepair in every way u look at it because it has become assummed that someone else should be responsible for someone elses actions
take responsibility for your actions people save the world

Hope to join the in the fun soon!Trials eh?
What state?
I did trials in NSW for about 10 years, dont worry about sitting down it’s over rated, especially by those people who ride with their left hand on their hip
Actually it’s nice to sit for a little bit when your legs need a rest.Bumbag, add:
cable ties
roll of electrical tape
tie wire
metal putty (epoxy metal) – especially if you dont have a bash plate
30mm webbing 8-10mtr long for a tow ropeI always have a couple of fluoro vests in the car as I do organise an ocasional ride.
Organisers should also have extra communications, not just a mobile phone, say a CB radio or epirb or something.
I say this because organisers have the inherant responsibility of the safety of the riders, like the captain of a ship is responsible for the safety of all those on his ship, I feel the same applies for trail rides in the bush as we have similar remoteness to consider.Just another 20 cents worth.

Beema. I think I know where your kinda comn from with the responsibility thing. But in reality, are you not responsible for your own safety as a rider on any ride, At a ride brief(which everyone should hold prior to a ride) it is handy if you can highlight what you feel may be something that should be taken into consideration on the ride to look out for,, EG: My briefs for nundle will always have that we will be riding through active logging areas and that we may also come across 4x4s on the trails, Any body riding behind me is in my eyes is responsible for their own actions and safety, I do have a sweep in place should someone need assistance,A trail ride is a gentlemens agreement to all meet in one place to enjoy the trails in the area, and like life theres always a leader, the middle man, and some that comes through and watches your back, so with all this in mind unless you are being paid to attend the ride you should be willing to acept that you may get injured and that the lead is not responsible for your safety. If I ride off a cliff,(shut up menace) are you gunna follow me????

February 24, 2011 at 10:20 pm #197297Organisers should provide the bbq the gas and if they don’t they should know where the closest one is at all times
The closest water hole or creek for filling camelbaks (if u only drink water from a tap make sure u bring your own tap)
The organiser or the people u r riding with should know where u r going or where u r or at least know where u should end up??February 24, 2011 at 10:43 pm #197301I’ll add to the list needed:
Solicitor
sense of adventure
humourous attitude
provide much mirth when applicable
enjoy the ride…
Now thats simple.. -
