Gili requested a run down on a trailriders bumbag, so here it is mate
Well here is what I carry after years of trail riding. It is made of stuff that has stood the test of time, shit has been thrown out that hasn’t made the grade.
Here in one of the side pouches is the sockets (8, 10, 12, and 14mm) maybe two 8 and10mm’s there is a sliding tee bar and extension. There is a lighter, lock wire and electrical tape.
Other side pouch has, hose clamps, joining links ( all types, O ring, Z ring etc ), piece of 520 chain, spark plug and spark plug holder to look after the good one, chain breaker and plate installer, valve tool and CO bottle adapter.
Nuts, bolts and misc items etc
Pump, reversible screw driver, fuel hose
Cable ties, rubber gloves, spare rear brake pads ( muddy rides chop them to pieces ) the red roll is a special type of tape used to wrap up split hoses, salastic and quick metal in a two type mix.
Spanners, spark plug spanner, pilers, wheel spanners, spare levers, gear stick and spoke spanner
thanx tb. not a bad lookin set up. ive got to do a bit of adding, specialty tools and the like, but ive got the basics covered, particularly when you have to cover dodgy warriors like madmacs out on the trails!!!:laugh:
The old and the new! This was my old mans old isde type bag, but had a blow out!
And this is what i have in the new fox bag.
I don’t have a bumbag but carry a couple of tool rolls in the Camelbac. The tool roll is made by KTC (Japans Snapon equivelant).
One has the tools……
The Other has spares, levers, tyre repair kit and the like…..
It all weighs in at close to 2kg though and i have been considering getting a bumbag to distribute some of the weight a bit better, as after a long ride with a heavy Camelpak I have been experiencing a bit of trouble with my neck.
I will say it again, guys who carry all the required gear and can use it, are a pleasure to ride with as they can save the ride from turning to shit when things go wrong.micknmeld wrote:

You can carry all the shit that we carry, but we do so many rides and never open the bumbags and thats the way it should be. The young bloke next door is always saying to me are you working on your bike again, and I do I spend hours and hours going over it, you only get out of it what you put into it.

AnonymousDon’t laugh. It is also quite handy to carry a small roll of this, for emergencies on the trail. Especially after a night on the beer and curry.

What exactly is the roll of red tape in your toolbag. Is it “Fixall” tape. (http://www.fixalltape.com.au/) I often thought of carrying some Self Amalgamating Tape for hose repairs, but I don’t think it is suitable for high heat and pressure. The Fixall tape seems to be the go for those types of repairs on both bikes and cars, in an emergency on a High Country ride or a trip from Parkes to the Corner.
Can anyone “acquire” this stuff from their work?

AnonymousI didn’t see any “Quicksteel” (or any derivatives thereof) amongst that lot. (edit: I should learn to read!!!)
I can vouch for the stuff having made two successful repairs (the one time I tried it on the Vor’s radiator it was a pointless exercise, said radiator having been bent and twisted beyond recognition!), it’s magic gear!I also carry two cigarette lighters. If I decide to burn the bike, I’d be REALLY dirty if the lighter failed!:lol:
There’s my lot, looks like I need to replenish my cable tie stash! I used to have one of those six day bags, but it too had a blow out, so I got the missus to get me one of Porky’s specials. I think one of my mates now has the old bag which he’s sown up. That makes hime tighter than me:blink:
