MurphQuite right Murph. Nothing worse than getting an unexpected “Pang”.
May 9, 2011 at 12:58 pm #200839Date roll never leave home without it. I carry much the same as everyone but also always carry a foil blanket for emergency use. They fold up to nothing and can be used to keep an injured rider warm or keep me warm if I get stuck in a valley of doom overnight.
May 9, 2011 at 1:01 pm #200840I don’t have have much to add. I carry most of what has already been posted.
I do carry about 1m of 1.5mm fencing wire. Has about a million uses. I used it about a month ago to wire my muffler back on when the bolts fell out. Lasted the rest of the day (70km).
I pack my bumbag depending on where I’m riding. If it’s not far from home then I take very little. If it’s with a big group and a long way from the cars then I pack everything. Lately I have taken just the basic tools and tyre changing stuff. No spare chain or breaker. Tyre changing gear is about to get ditched and a rear mousse fitted.
Interesting that it took a while for some to mention a first aid kit and what was in it. Funny how we take a massive first aid kit for the bikes and a few band aids for ourselves.
I used to have a bigger first aid kit than tool kit. Now I have stream lined it from years of fixing riders on the side of the track.
3 triangle bandages (endless uses for these things)
2 compression bandages (need at least 2 for a snake bike to the leg)
3 thermo (space) blankets. (2 for the patient and 1 to use as a signal for helicopters)
Antiseptic cream
Panadeine
Leatherman to cut limbs off. 😆
Lighter and 2 sheets of news paper for a fire. When someone is in shock a fire is good for warmth and something for them to focus on.DO A FIRST AID COURSE PEOPLE!!!! and be confident to use it too. It amazing how many ‘doctors’ turn up when a rider is down and just stand around looking at him.
May 9, 2011 at 6:10 pm #200844Don’t pick on doctors standing around Mal, it’s just that they need a Medicare card or cash register before they can start. I did try taking a portable x ray machine along on rides but it just couldn’t keep up on hills.

I wasn’t acually picking on real doctors mate.
The example I was thinking of was from years ago when our lead rider in a group of 15 nailed a tree at speed and knocked himself out. I was sweep and by the time I got there it was like a scene form General Hospital. Everyone was standing around diagnosing old mate and only one guy checking him.
Lucky I have my Medicare card with me on all rides. Might have to put some more cash in the bumbag though. Bloody Docs don’t miss you these days. 😆
May 9, 2011 at 7:20 pm #200868I have a backpack for the bike stuff.

Also if it is an injury and med evac, the doctors will not be able to do too much to the patient until what you have given them is out of system.cheers Hatto

ScottoMay 12, 2011 at 7:03 pm #201102The assembly (on a wr) has two pieces the main part with the lever and a c shaped bracket to hold it on if the c bracket breaks
you use the two bolts in the closest holes on the speed strap and just tighten them up.I rode for 18 months with my clutch held on this way. -
