Went for a ride up into the Watties on Saturday and had a couple of young fella’s from work tag along for the ride.
1st problem they arrive at the meeting place 20 minutes late no call to say they would be late.
2nd problem we have to head into a servo to get a feed and fuel,Why couldnt they do this the night before like I did? and have some cereal for brekky (not normally a problem but we were already running late)
3rd problem he didnt have any water for his Camelback (why didnt he get some at the servo?)
4th Problem He had to borrow my spare helmet
5th Problem he had no air in his front tyre, his mate attempted to pump it up but the pump broke, so he was going to use the electric pump from the car
6th problem had to kick start his KTM520 because his battery was flat
7th Problem accelerated up the main road like an idiot on his way to loud bike
8th problem couldnt get his bike going again after he came back even after pushing it up the road and towing it.(turns out the kill switch had rotated around and activated)
9th Problem stalled on a small log and couldnt start his bike and wanted to head back to the car. I finally managed to bump start it.
10th Problem His bike had to much power for him he was worn out from hanging on and trying to keep control,he was however extremley fast on the open road
11 problem Sat in the middle of a creek and winged about does it get any better (this was on the Koala trail which is awsome)
12th Problem waived us through half way along a trail and said he would catch up (yeh right he’s never been on these tracks and would get totally lost) mean while gili and his mate sat waiting for half an hour for him to catch up I give up waiting and took off.
13th Problem get back to the cars and found their ute had a huge horse nail thru the rear tyre.
14th Problem No jack to fix the tyre!!
15th Problem Didnt put the jack back the way he found it and now its rattling its head off,(just realised what it was today)I am sure not all young fellas are like this and im probably just a grumpy old man but can you imagine if there was another 20 people on the ride, how would I look!
He even asked me when we would be doing it again (not soon sunshine!)

February 14, 2010 at 8:42 am #171118Hey ollie, Had to laugh while reading this as same thing happened to me and my brother some years back. You have to hope that his learnt something and will prepare better in future!!

February 14, 2010 at 8:51 am #171125Theres nothing worse when you go to the trouble of organising a ride and you get someone who just rocks up and spoils it for everyone else  .sometimes i think your just better off sticking with your mates, that said tho if i didnt venture out of my comfort zone i wouldnt have found oldbulls
February 14, 2010 at 8:54 am #171126spose thats a good reason to get the poos Ollie dam youg fellas on KTMs was he registed i hate it when they turn up unregisted (and you can not go to the pub for lunch)
February 14, 2010 at 8:58 am #171127I forgot to mention that his 520 was worked with Hi comp piston and bored out to a 540 and his kickstarter gear was nearly rooted  I could only manage to bump start it in 4th gear on a downhill as it just locked up in anything lower. I have written him up a list of things to do including getting himself a bike he could better handle Ie 250 4 stroke 200 2 stroke.

February 14, 2010 at 9:00 am #171120:laugh: So you had a great day out Fingerz
Sounds like the typical youth of today to me mate,,, God help us,,,,
And these dudes help protect our country ???    CRIKEY
February 14, 2010 at 9:01 am #171121My imediate thought was, there would be no problem. 20 minutes late with no call I would have been on the road by then. Then I realised they were the only blokes you were riding with (or at least attempting to anyway). Riding solo is not a real good option so you were between a rock and a hard place and it sounds like it never improved. I’m sure when you get to work tomorrow they will be raving about how much funn they had and how they want to go riding with you all the time. Have fun!!
February 14, 2010 at 9:03 am #171129Hey Ollie it will get better, tomorrow at work he will tell everyone how crap the ride was and how he couldn’t get you to stay off his bike.
February 14, 2010 at 9:09 am #171130Nah Roy I had Gili in the car with me He’s a young bloke as well (26) but at the other end of the maturity spectrum. The other young fella was totally different as well he was riding a KLX450 and showed plenty of ticker,it was his first go at riding some serious single trail. He will be invited in the future
He was totally knackered at the end of the ride and couldnt believe how we were still fresh as
I almost forgot  he also bought his competency log for me to sign off a few comps that he had completed with someone else. I advised him to get it signed by the right person
PS TB I think I might ride shotgun with Kram on the Saturday as my broken thumb is still giving me plenty of grief

February 14, 2010 at 9:12 am #171131Sounds typical of youth of today. I bet people our age twenty years ago, were saying the same thing about us as young punks.
Your cars to loud
your music’s to loud
Get a haircut
etc.Not defending this bloke in the slightest but think back to when you were younger and the attitude you had. Hopefully it was different to “look after number one”.
