To answer your question Chris, no, why, it would only have EFI which would be good but the carby is going fine and it would have USD forks but that I am not convinced is the answer to everything with an aluminum frame, nah it would have to be something special mate to think about a change, when you happy your happy

July 29, 2009 at 11:53 pm #145840Every now and then a special bike comes out and the people who own them become attached to them, The XR650 seems to be one of these bikes as every bloke I know that has one or has had one is highly fond of them.
damn a bloke I know in Brisbane damn near talked me into one last year….
And this is a feeling for a bike i understand, for me it was the 1984 RM125D off-road, and the RZ500R onroad.

July 30, 2009 at 12:12 am #145844Hey Mr Rat, you’re just a big orange softie aren’t you?
Nah sometimes there’s a “bonding” if you get that Woohoo, nothing you won’t attempt, if there’s not sell up and move on, many bikes i cannot come to grips with, but a few you go “if I just moved the bars, put some new pegs on and stiffened that up it could work, my KTM300 was like that, but in the end it became apparent that alas we were never to be in sync. So I sold and moved on.
Still never have found a bike that I can float over the whoops, jump anything at any speed, or corner like my old RM, but maybe that had something to do with being 19 yr old (75 kgs and fit as at the time too  ) invincible, and most facilties still in order.
No brand loyalty here, if it works for me it’s good.

PS I hate PDS, but not KTM

July 30, 2009 at 8:34 am #145865The zone is a funny thing, you cant find it, you have to let it come to you, I see people go like maniacs of the trailer getting arm pump, over shooting corners and just trying to hard. You have to let a ride and the zone come to you, it will grasshopper but let it find you
Once down the high country I had what Crash and I call golden Saturday. Whats golden Saturday you ask? Well it was a day when I couldnt do a thing wrong, I ran with some better riders, diced with Ben Grabham (yeah he was on a XR250) but Paul Sindaberry wasnt or Hoffman. It was fantastic it was like I couldnt crash no matter what I did, and I completely destroyed a brand new IRC, it had every centre ripped from it or snapped of, and 90% of the ones on both side of the centre row. Its never happened since, please fiddy god let it happen again

AnonymousYour right TB, but I think you end up in the zone when your condfident within yourself and your bike. However one must remember not to become cocky (yes I am guilty as charged) sometimes I find myself being a little to cocky and not waiting for the zone to find me.
Riding with better and faster riders definately helps you become a better and more confident rider. This is something that I got from the OBT longest weekend. All on this ride were guns and I learnt so much.
July 30, 2009 at 9:31 am #145885T/B is right don’t chase it, it may visit you. Sleep well, eat well before the ride, approach the day with no pressure upon yourself and you’ll have a better chance of it finding you.
I’ve quite a few Golden Sundays in my past, a few lucky breaks and voilia you can be a local hero for 25.6 seconds.
Once had a great ride on a twisty mountain road where i held an ex factory superbike rider at bay for 1/2 an hour, next time i rode with him I got smoked….but still there was that time, just the once and I earnt his respect to this day, before that he treated me as just another local wannabe idiot, then he rode with my much faster mate……….
factory bike tryouts for my mate ensued, pity about the drugs in his system….. bloody fool. But back to the zone, I become 100% focus, the corners are ridden before I am there, the tail of the next bike in front is just another obstacle and the bike becomes silent underneath you, just speed and forethought is all that matters, found it bigtime a few months ago with two of the faster brethren on a dirt road……by the time they had finally pulled to where I stopped, the adrenaline was gone, my engine was cool, but my wild-eyed faraway stare remained.
getting a bit long between drinks these days though…..

AnonymousI normally take it relatively easy at the start of a ride just to warm up a bit, then I turn the pace up when I want to to get the feel of things. Providing we keep riding I can then switch on/off at will.
There are special times times though when for some unexplained reason you get to get 110% and it seems to flow naturally. Love it when that happens.
Champo – Yeah cabin fever maybe
My old man is coming over for a holiday in a coupl eof months and I was going to do a father/son ride and steal Matt’s bike but the mole needs to sell it now so I’m thinking of buying another bike so he can ride. It would be good if I can use it to ride to work here and there too

AnonymousTB – this was the one I was looking at. Put off by the fact that it’s not registered though. I don’t want to spend very much money I’m supposed to be saving for a house
