Also, where do you stand on the fatty or finny? 80/100 or 90/100……
October 23, 2012 at 8:55 am #231260gotta go with my favorite michelin M12 xc competition bought one when i had my husky 510 and it just went anywhere i put it and gave me heaps of confidence and with the ktm 300 and the cr i still wouldnt get any other tyre for the front and im actually running a 90/90 on the front

Tenere I like Dunlop 952 and 907 80/100 to protect the rim on ten big heavy bike. Can’t runs mousse tubes cause to heavy to hot to much high speed

October 23, 2012 at 9:14 am #231264It’s funny that the first two suggestions are for one of the few tyres I haven’t tried.
A 90/90 is near as a gnat’s dick the same as a 80/100, i.e. 81mm? Is that a stock Michy size, I haven’t used Michy’s for a while?
For what it’s worth I’ve been preferring wider fronts (90/100) and tyres with more knobs than less as the majority of stuff I ride is hardpack, rocks, roots and general bush shit. Not a great deal of mud/clay.
The Michy M12 XC looks quite good in that regard. I need a new tyre and altough I have 2 new ones sat in the garage I they are both 90/100’s and I need a 80/100 (or equivalent) as the front mousses are dying too quickly in the 90/100’s.

October 23, 2012 at 9:21 am #231265A round and black one with nobs that doesn’t go flat!   but I would have to agree a Michelin S12 or M12 are the go however they are quite soft in the side wall so UHD tubes are a must and the right pressure. As for something that has a stiffer side wall I don’t mind the Dunlop MX51, they both give good rider confidence.
Thats my 2cents worth.

October 23, 2012 at 9:22 am #231268Isn’t 90/90 near as a gnat’s dick the same as a 80/100?? i.e. 81mm? Is that a stock Michy size, I haven’t used Michy’s for a while.
Quote:Michys have some funny sizes they are also hard to(at our local anyway) get hence why i have the 90/90 as it was the only one there but im pretty sure for the other bikes i ran a 90/100 wether it was slippery red clay of dungog or rocky old wallaroo they have been a good tyre for me, i wont buy anything else for the front but will try for a bit of value on the back tyreOctober 23, 2012 at 9:33 am #231270Anyone that runs a M12 XC tried a Michy MS3 or MH3? I used to love the MS3 after switching to it from the S12. It’s been so long since trying them though I couldn’t compare them now.
Last few fronts have been Pirelli Scorp Mid Soft, Pirelli Extra X and Dunlop MX51. All of which have been good. The Dunlops are a pig to fit as they have a tough sidewall, the Pirelli’s are like mountain bike tyres.
I run mousses so don’t give a crap sidewall stiffness from a flat perspective, I think I’d rather a firmer sidewall though to give the mousse an easier time though. I’m a mousse destroyer!
I’m now tossing up between the MH3 and the M12 XC.
October 23, 2012 at 9:37 am #231272The MH3 is my fav out of them, couldnt remember the number but thats it. Walked out and looked on the way to Chris’s  They grip the same IMO but last better and the edge knobs dont break with a mousse

They are awesome 90×90 for meOctober 23, 2012 at 9:57 am #231271I think I posted something similar once before but,
I had an m12 on my drz that I initially hated but as the knobs wore down it got better and better to the point where I didn’t want to change it

Yes I’v had a year out of one before and I ride quite regular, as you say Jeffro the knobs seem to wear down but the grip does’nt get worse  great value for money tyre
October 23, 2012 at 10:14 am #231286I too am a big fan of the M12 front. I run them thin but then again I am on an MTB
S12 needs very soft ground or it starts to roll the knobs. M12 front, S12 rear :woohoo:STM
