Is there a simple method to balance a rear wheel at home ??
The tyre I am removing has been balanced and I was wondering if there`s something I can do when I fit the new rubber to get it somewhere close,,,,

Not too concerned about it really, as I never worried about it before till I got the Kato which is balanced

Hi Eagle02, I had a feeling my wheels were out of balance and enquired at the local repairer how much it would cost for a true and balance. Anyway a truing/balance stand was going to cost half the amount qouted so I took the plunge. If you have a rim lock fitted then you will be out of balance by whatever that weighs. I fitted a second one on the rear and didn’t require any extra weight. The front took 60 grams.
If live near Sydney/Blue Mountains you are welcome to borrow the stand. Steve

Normal rule of thumb Beags is the rim / etc is balanced with a tyre. You normally just fit a new tyre it’s it’s pretty close, I would say close enough. I used to check my Tenere ones when I fitted a tyre and they were so close it didn’t matter. The biggest things you are balancing is the rim lock and valve.

I am balancing Leftys tonight as they haven been done before. I have a stand and weights they are cheap enough, I really only use mine now days for other people’s wheels and when I build wheels

Yeah, I figured as much .
Just wondering though as the 690`s rims were both balanced before too. I will remove the weights tonite and can always reuse them later on I suppose ;) (after I get my act together & get the Rimlocks)

Heah Eags take wheel off,put axel through ,rest each side on a milk crate or 20l oil drums, the wheel will roll to the heaviest spot, get a lead sinker or strip o lead and put it opposite the lowest point, spin again and see how ya went.amusess me for hours.(dont take much)

If you put your bike up on a centre stand, remove your brake calipers/ push back or remove pad & remove chain for rear you can balance your wheels at home, just need some weights.
