After reading husky blokes post about barrington, I was sitting here this morning searching ebay for a PW50 and some training wheels, and the wife told me it was probably too early to get our little girl into bikes..
When did you blokes start your kids out? I asked my old man and he was doubling me at 4 months in a harness, and he said he thinks I was about 3 years old..
BTW my wife is now 3 days overdue… Is this too soon?
April 30, 2011 at 2:26 pm #200365My son was 8 and our daughter was 4 when they started riding. Connor was 9 when he started racing and Taylah was 5 when she started.
April 30, 2011 at 3:40 pm #200371You may be a touch early there mate
April 30, 2011 at 4:17 pm #200372my boys were 4 and 6( now 6 and
had the kdx 50 for 2 years now and bought the ktm at christmas , ive been pretty steady with them over the first couple of years with pretty much bush riding with them .It was there first time on a track with a heap of other kids on the weekend and they both struggled a bit with everything happening around them (and getting used to boots and new gear) but i think they improved the more time they got on the track and absolutely loved it, so in my experience so far is just let them get the time to do it they will improve and at this age they will listen to you to
i think the best thing i have taught them is to go out and not worry what anyone else is doing and get caught up inracing someone and going to fast for there level , they have come off but nothing serious( can never have enough protective gear either , they fall off and hurt themselves to bad ealy in the piece i reckon you will scare them off bikes alltogether). and they always get back on.
So osmooian it may a tad early at the moment but give her a week or 2 and just show up with a PW50 as a maternity present………….maybe!!!April 30, 2011 at 9:18 pm #200366
thats gold osmooian
my son got his tt50 for his second bday he is 3 now he rides it well but still has the training wheels on it.
i say go for it leave it in her room till she wants to play on it / with itApril 30, 2011 at 10:24 pm #200367My kids are Ryan 4 and Rachel 5 and a half when I introduced them to a 4t Quad. I bought them both new PW50’s 1 year later with out training wheels and off they both went. Ryan is now 8 and on a TTR90 and Rachel is on a PW80. Rachel isn’t into it as much as Ryan these days but still enjoys a ride. Around November, I will be looking for something with a clutch for Ryan as he is not happy unless the back wheel is spinning or he has both wheels off the ground. He has come along way in such a short time.
Maybe we can organise a kids weekend up at the OWLS Nest. Got everything there. Can even teach them to drive a car.

May 1, 2011 at 12:57 pm #200368My son started riding a PW50 when he was 4yo.
I was doubling his mother around on dirt and road bikes when she was 8 months pregnant.
So i guess he was really on bikes in his minus years.
He went through the whole mini bike club scene and did some racing.
It was all good practice and great fun for both of us.My daughter’s is into horses (show jumping) now if you want to spend some money on your childs sport this is a good one.
Rebore.

I was going only on what you get for your money. One of those stupid Tutu costs more than all the kids protective ride gear put together (and they are expected to have several). Then they expect you to pay to go and watch your daughter dance, which is dog shit boring anyhow.
May 1, 2011 at 3:32 pm #200369Have to agree with TB on this one Mick.
I know what you are saying with Ballet though as my daughter used to do that as well.:S
But she has been into horses for many years and both my bank account and I wish she had stayed in ballet:pinch:
She does pay here own way now but nearly all of her money goes into her sport.
So in that sense it’s not much different to riding bikes.Rebore
May 3, 2011 at 2:26 am #200370My boy was 3 when he started on the PW with training wheels. He is now 5 and already broken his collar bone on the mx track.
My daughter is 2 1/2 and will be on it as soon as I put the trainer wheels back on.May 24, 2011 at 1:21 am #200532my girl maddy 10 months old throwing a one handed thumbs up
