I am putting YZ plastics, seat and tank on the WR and wondering where to put the number plate. I have bought an LED tailight extension that I can hang the number plate off, but I reckon it might be a bit vulnerable there as there is only 3 bolts through the guard holding it on. I have seen heaps of bikes with the number plate on top of the guard which looks heaps cleaner, but I don’t know how legal that is ‘cos they’re not real visible. Does anyone have ideas?

Oh, by the way, I’m in Vic. Dunno if that makes a difference or not.

I am in NSW & have the plate screwed onto the rear guard, it has been there for a year & got pulled up once by a bike Cop for it
He said it was cause cameras can`t pick it up on such an angle plus you are supposed to have it lit ( he also said on a dirt bike with mainly dirt use it could be acceptable,,, so go figure
He only cautioned me & I promised to put it back down on a more vertical angle :silly:

Needless to say ,,,, it is still on there :woohoo:

    Hope this helps

Is it full reg or rec reg? Are you riding road or bush only? If your only riding bush on top of the guard is fine but if your using it to get around you will have to mount it properly. You can buy a short plate holder that doesnt look to bad.

I am running the short holder with LED light and I have not lost mine. Just bend the sides of the plate down a little to give more claaerance and Loctite the bolts or use Nylock nuts.

The bike is rec reg’d and ridden in the bush only. I guess I’ll hang it off the back, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Mate you will be fine with it on the guard.we have been stopped by the wallopers several times in the bush and as long as they can see a plate you are sweet.

Just my two cents worth but I just stick the number plate in my camelback so its visible through the mesh.
I only ride in the bush anyway.
The rego is mainly for the insurance thing for me.
Both the personal accident bit (the greenslip)(in case you run into another rider)
and the motorbike comprehensive insurance require the rego thing.

If the cops ever did pull me up I guess they might fine me ?

Lost a couple of plates on the old CRF450X.
Easier to keep the plate on my back.

    Anyways, happy days.

I am in NSW so it may not apply but I got pulled over for having my plate on my backpack, I told him it had ripped off in a fall on the day (ya gotta think on ya feet some times ;) ) and that was the only place I could put it where it could be seen. He let mego but said it was illegal and to mopunt it properly before my next ride.
