Hey Guys,
I’m looking for some guidance, I have sold my DRZ400 a while back (got screwed over on the price <25%, thanks Ebay), and now I'm busting to get out there again.
I really thought I wanted a 2010′ Berg FE450, A couple of OBT guys had a look at one at Grafton for me, but we couldn’t meet on price…. Thanks again guys.
Anyways, I don’t do a lot of riding, just a few OBT rides, the Kowen State Ride aswell as the Watagans every now and then.
I’m lucky to be a grade 3 rider on a good day.
I see a heap of guys leaning towards the 250’s, am I too big…
I weigh in at 96kg nude (its a great site, happy to post pics  )
I am pretty sure I don’t have the goods to get on a two smokerAny suggestions for a bike???
I’m busting my @ss to ride again, I think I’m getting desperate, I really don’t think I can go orange….
Ther like A holes everyones got one…
Suggestions welcome, I’m open to offers.Cheers and thanks for your input
ActionFebruary 21, 2012 at 11:22 pm #216754Action I’m 96kg + mate and my Crf250x has plenty of power and had no problem pulling me up the steep hills we did on Saturday.

Can’t wait for the photos  :pinch:
Given the type of rides you do, and the fact your not racing everywhere you go a 250 would go as hard as the DRZ
What you loose in power you gain in weight loss on the lighter bike
You just ride up fast hills in a gear lower than the DRZ, every else is pretty much the same
Some 250’s come with six gears and give you a closer ratio box anyway.
Have a test ride on someones and get a feel for it.

February 21, 2012 at 11:25 pm #216766So there is a couple of 07 Wr250’s here on the site for sale at the moment…
Should I look at them??? :blink:February 21, 2012 at 11:25 pm #216756The Husaberg at Grafton was the best buy I have seen in a long time. If you were not happy with that then I have no idea. LC has shown how versatile that bike is yet you passed up a great deal.
Good luck.

20/20 hindsight is a real great thing. I have been crying in my beer ever since. I realise now, it was a steal.
Tough lesson learnt. Appreciate your help too.
Once I get sorted with a bike, I’m going to kick the OBT donation tin with some $$, I consider it payment for a bike inspection.February 22, 2012 at 12:06 am #216772As per Nickj, I too am 96ish Kgs and a 250 tows my sorry arse around as good as if not better than my old DRZ. if you want arm snapping power then go big bore, but for good fun controllable power and rippy 250 would be the ducks guts, WR.CRF, KTM,any of the high end models but I would prodably would stay clear of the DR 250 it may disapoint you a bit.
Boony
February 22, 2012 at 12:23 am #216774Action dont discount a 300 2 stroke, they can be as mellow or as snappy as you like
less cost, lower maintenance big grin factor and light weight. take a Gasser for a test ride you will be surprised at how versatile they can be (especially ones with a six speed)
OllieFebruary 22, 2012 at 12:42 am #216757Hmm, the old weight issue, Honda CRF250X 114kg. Husaberg FE 390, 450, 570 114kg.
The old 250 is lighter is a bit of a furphy Im afraid.

Nothing to do with versatility of the bike, I’m just an awesome rider! 👿 (could probably even make a DR look good   )

February 22, 2012 at 11:23 am #216779Action,
Don’t have that much to add except a 250 or any bike will be fine with your weight. Sounds like you’re not going to wear it out from over use. You probably won’t notice to much difference between bikes if you’re only riding occasionally. I must say I do find it slightly hard to believe that all husaberg bikes from 390 to 570 weigh the same amount (unless it’s the same motor with varying stroke length). The yamaha wr250 is a great bike and shouldn’t be overlooked. Ignore stated km’s on bike for sale and just look for signs of wear on cases and pedals. And be nice to your mother.
The main advice is that it is a buyers market at the moment. Bikes just don’t seem to be moving much from what I can see so get out there and start haggling. Good luck.

Bol :woohoo:February 22, 2012 at 12:17 pm #216798And just when I thought I’d run out of advice there is one more.
If you are not a stickler for air filter cleaning and oil changing then a 250 is not the bike for you. They are less forgiving of lack of maintenance than larger bikes. May not be a proven fact but that’s what I reckon. I hate cleaning filters and I owned a 250 but I clean my filter after every ride regardless of length/conditions. Maybe that’s why I hate it so much. I own 3 filters now so at least I’m only cleaning a large batch every 3 rides.
