So I’m putting a sweet Watto’s loop together, something a bit different to the normal routes. I have most of it planned out with the option of adding sections to extend or reduce the length as required.
However, I need some advice around the Whitemans area (Ollie, TB?). If you ride up all the rock faces on Whitemans Lane (off of Jilliby road) you end up on Whitemans Ridge Road. Going roght at the top brings you back out on Watagan Forest Road, going left takes you down the Ridge Road.
Is there a way to get from the end of the Ridge Road back over to Watagan Forest Road or some other trail that takes us to it? As far as I can see it drops down on the Jilliby side to Private Property but on the right hand side there are other trails as seen on Google Maps that go close, I just don’t know if there is a link track, if there is, that would be sweet.
We ran out of fuel last Sat at this point and had to hightail it outta there. Not to mention my big stack into a tree
August 9, 2012 at 2:07 pm #227069and when will this ride be? I haven’t been to the wattos in a long long time.
Chris.
August 9, 2012 at 2:08 pm #227080sorry moto I was of no help whatsoever!
August 9, 2012 at 2:19 pm #227081When I find out how to get from Whitemans back to Watagan Forest Rd without riding down the firetrail
It’s a good loop but the section isn’t for the faint hearted
I think there might be a ‘B’ way around where we can meet at the top, I need to explore more. I know there is another way but I think that has a pretty hard section going up too.
Think large, continuous rock ledges like that go for 20-30 meteres a pop and there are 4 of them.
August 9, 2012 at 2:26 pm #227091Cool I can see if my six weeks of personal training has payed off… Might be throwing the bike down a few cliffs, sounds like it will be motozberg ride.
August 9, 2012 at 2:30 pm #227094Up a few cliffs
I’ll post the ride when I’ve got it sorted. It will have to be done in the dry or we will have to skip going up Whitemans.
I might do a ride starting from the South end (Dunks Lane) or maybe even from the Tennis Courts a bit father up so we can the stuff behind Dooralong Lodge over towards Morrisset
August 9, 2012 at 2:33 pm #227092There used to be a way through Moto many many moons ago. It ran beside the main track from (I think long long time ago I stopped riding the Watos years ago when it was getting f*#ked out)
I would be interested in this ride dates pending just for old times sake
TB
August 9, 2012 at 2:41 pm #227098Sweet, I may head that way tomorrow and check it out again, see if we can find a way through.
I’ll have to find out distances for the ride, I doubt we will be able to start at the South end and still get over Morriset way due to fuel (don’t really want to ride the tar to Morrisset for fuel either). An option would be to do a fuel drop I suppose.
I can either trim the loop at the Doorlalong end starting at Dunks or trim it at the SOuth end by starting at the tennis courts or Maculata.
Ride will also have a lowish cap to ensure we keep the flow
I’ll plan something over the next weeks and post it up
August 9, 2012 at 3:21 pm #227070Google map it as you have
Take your bike and make your own
better still take a mate
one can start at one end and vice versaAnd I’m coming as well :woohoo:
August 9, 2012 at 3:46 pm #227071Moto,
Whitemans Ridge / Maculata join onto Daniels Point Rd. There is a big bog hole down the bottom (near the private property) then goes up.
I assume this is where you meant
It’s been a few years since I’ve been down Daniels Point Rd. Similar to the Whitemans side. There are singles on the western side of Watagan Forest Rd that take you back towards Whitemans, with some challenging sections too
Adam.
August 9, 2012 at 4:07 pm #227108Hey Adam, that’s interesting to know. I call Daniels Point Rd ‘Maculata’ as it’s part of the Maculata loop I do. It drops down the hill, down that little rock ledge section to the bog hole at the bottom, I rode up it (the rock ledge section) the other week too so it’s fresh in my memory.
I’m not sure where the Ridge Road joins Daniels Point Road but if I get back onto the Ridge Road from the top of Whitemans Lane and follow it down I guess I’ll find out. If that’s where it comes out that will be perfect!
I’ll investigate with a mate tomorrow and see how I go. I probably rode the singles you’re talking about last week too. There were also singles jumping on and off Whitemans Ridge Road
August 9, 2012 at 4:16 pm #227109That way I could do a loop like:
Start at Maculata, Daniels Point Rd to Watagan Forest Road. Drop of West side into singles, prick hill etc all the way to Phil Tunks. Down Tunks, up the road to Dooralong, singles in there, back up Tunks then head South on the singles, drop down Hitchcoks, up Whitemans, left on the Ridge Road back to Daniels Point and back to cars.
Or even start at Dunks, singles all the way to Maculata, then up the ridge road, down Hitchcocks, up whitmans, then singles to Tunks and Dooralong etc.
August 9, 2012 at 4:42 pm #227111Are you in training for an Erzberg or last man standing ride Moto ? I agree with what Adam has said. Best bet is to take some Maps and a gps and add it to google maps. I then may be able to assist you. When you go down into the Bog hole which has been trashed by 4×4’s  the road leading out joins Daniels Point Rd. there are many singles leading off Watagan forest Rd and Whitemans which do join up (im not too sure of which ones but Georges Rd and pole point Rd ring a bell)
I noticed you missed out on Duffeys, Panadol Hill and the Lantana trail. youve got to add them they are crackers
PS dont invite me Im away until the end of November
Ollie
Edit : maybe Murph or Diddle can add some more details
August 9, 2012 at 5:24 pm #227114I like a challenge mate and don’t want to cruise up and down single trails all day. I was highly impressed that I got up all 4 sections of Whitemans Lane 1st and time without help though.
Is Duffy’s that loop we did when you almost fell into the creek and I helped you up? I know how to get there and have been meaning to go do it again. I might add it in depending on how long/hard the rest of the loop is.
There certainly are some tricky hills in there, prick hill is harder now due to most of ruts on the ‘a’ or ‘b’ lines being deeper than peg height.
Also, is the Lantana trail the one you flipped your bike on that time (off Boyds or something?). If so I rode that the other day, I was the only one who made it up unassisted, more through brute force and ignorance than good judgement
August 9, 2012 at 5:56 pm #227117Yeh mate Duffy’s is the fast twin trail off Watagan forest Rd you turn left from Daniels Pt Rd and its on the right a couple of hundred meteres. follow that till you see the green painted rock that leads you down panadol Hill and into the creek where you helped me out. Boyds is at the top where you turn left and go up that awsome track ( I think there is a log over it that can be jumped) then up to the right where I was upside down on my WR450 :silly: that time.
Lantana trail – :silly: go up through maculata through all the rocky trails and when you come to a T section you turn left and head up past the power towers (dirt roadil) Lantana trial is on the right (yellow tape marking entrance I think) comes back out eventually on to Maculata trail that leads down to the Boggy section.
