So who was the two smoke rider that rode a 450 four stroke last weekend and was quoted to write

” i actually rode an 08 CRF 450 all weekend and apart from the front tyre being useless was quite impressed”

Being that he is such a hard core two smoke rider, four strokes are to heavy, what are those valves etc etc blah blah blah and all the other crap him and the smoker crew go on about  :P

Hot gossip is that his two stroke still isn’t going still, I would have thought if he was a fair dinkum smoker rider he would have pushed his *&#*&% then ridden a Honda (and speak highly of it ;) )

Must of been for free considering how tight he is  or you can organise the loan bike at a large supermarket chain :P

Shouldn’t surprise you Mick really, when he had a WR450 they were the greatest bike ever, then there was the RMX best ever and well now  He wouldn’t know loyalty if it was hanging by his balls :P

Yes it was I B) and I got to ride a good bike on the best trails in NSW :woohoo: bad luck to those that didnt :P
Things I like about it are :
The Crf is a nice compliant bike that has a heap of low end grunt that surges into the midrange and top end in a very linear way offering plenty of traction.
The forks are very plush and take the small stuff with ease, bit of deflection happens on the bigger rocks and tree roots but that maybe just the setup as the bike was dead stock standard
the shock was very nice and handled the whoops and sudden square edge hits nicely
Air filter access is a case of twist the retainer and pop open the little sidecover flap :) piece of piss.
Brakes were very good especially the rear which I tend to use more than the front.
now what I think needs attention:
The steering was a bit iffy may have been the Dunlop tyre but needless to say I had a few “Oh shit Moments”
The gearing seemed very low 14Ft/51 rr and I kept going for another gear on the open fire trails
The tight stuff you have to work hard and the cable clutch can get a bit tiring, I dont know if it was the grips or just the ergo’s but my hands had pins and needles after about an hour.
I noticed the weight after flogging through the tight stuff the exhaust is a monster but nice on the ears ;)
When under load strange noise were coming from within, not sure what it was but was a bit of a concern,I advised the owner to put her in for a service and get the clearances checked, maybe the cam chain as well.

Would I buy one ? No probably not I think the 06 Kato I rode at Sofala was a better bike especially with the 6th gear. The majority of my riding is single trails and I like the snap and weight benefits of the two stroke. When I finally get a chance to work on it I will finish it, its all but just a few little items need attention.

Sorry no pics of the Dungog Forest 300 but we did manage to sign up a few fellow trail riders who saw the Old Bulls racing Trailer and we also met a couple of Lurkers who promised to make an intro and hook up for a few rides B) (shane and bigal69r)
TB you are a gossiping ol mole  The RMX is the best bike ever :woohoo: and I would buy another tomorrow if they made em again  The WR450 (04) heaps of go but just beat me up,no good in the tight stuff (for me)

Nice write up Ollie, I enjoyed the weekend I had in the watagans on Chops 08 CRF450. The noise you speak about is normal I was told by Western’s, it was the weird engine noise when not on the cam so to speak  It didnt like to be lugged which is why I figured you dont see them being trail ridden but at a desert race they are a dime a dozen ;)

Nice work Ollie welcome to the smart side :P

Rocket a mate has just got a 2010 kato 200 so it could be on the cards  No rentals just good mates that know I would look after their bike and if anything happened I would get it repaired. I would also lend them my bike If they needed it and I wasnt riding. I want to try a KLX450 next anyone?

TB yeh thats the noise, sounds like chain slap only from the engine  When I heard that noise I just kicked her down a gear or two

I agree with the suspension Ollie, the Showa forks are just so damn good out of the box, everyone else should hang their heads in shame (WP, KYB-kayaba, OHLINs, Mazzochi et al), but unfortunately they are not representative of all of the bikes’ traits, still not bad 4Ts for a 4T…..
