No worries Ollie – Costing shouldn’t be to hard – lots of old bed frames and clothes lines from kerbside pick up  I am thrifty remember – Nah seriously when I start the project I will do a pictorial build report.

xy has made quite a generous offer to build me an open trailer, good on ya mate I appreciate having the option
January 18, 2010 at 9:59 am #168516i’m looking for a trailer also but i was considering one of those bike carrier things that mounts on tow bar then dont need a trailer

January 18, 2010 at 10:03 am #168518I considered one of those for a long while but was advised they’re not very secure and I figure the way I drive I’m better to have something strong that will last.

AnonymousI’ve gotta question how good those towbar mounted carriers would be.
Not so much on the carried bike but the stress on your cars towbar mounting points. Say you put most full sized bikes on it you are looking at around 115kg of down pressure on your towbar. That seems somewhat excessive to me, but thats only static weight. If you add the normal dip and so forth that your car has when driving along the road or fire trail going into the bush would that not amplify the downward weight on the tow bar?
I am not knocking those that have these carriers or reckon that they are a good thing but I just dont buy that they would be all that good or safe in use.
