TB that could be a good plan, I may take you up on that offer.
I will contact Sutto’s in the next few days to see what I can organise.
thanks
Bill.April 15, 2010 at 1:38 am #176104Hey Kram

It’s biggest issue for me was I came right off a predictable reasonably grippy 736R to a 952R and was chalk and cheese, I’ll be blunt the MX-retread with a 736 carcass I’m running ATM is far more predictable, even if it does throw random knobs into the undergrowth, at least when i bought I went in with my eyes wide open expecting little.
I loved dunlops in the 7 series, but the 952 I gave away and will never ever recommend for a hard hitting 2T, and has even made me wary of Dunlop altogether.

MurphI look forward to hearing your thoughts Murph.
After my recent dekarkle of 4 flats at Uralla I’m thinking about a new scorpian front and a mousse. I’ve never used a mousse before, just wondering what they feel like??
April 15, 2010 at 2:55 am #176108I have used the Dunlop D606 rear on my DRZ which I know is not the most powerful of weapons but I quite like it, I already have a scorpion sitting in the shed ready for the next change but would use the Dunlop again only with the D605 which is a bit softer compound now that I have the TA for the road ride work.

Mal5.1 fitted a front mousse for the four day and never said he felt any difference
Keep them well lubed and I will show you how to cut and replace sections over time.
I noted that Medogrocket used the goo like Ollie uses in the four day and still got a flat

AnonymousMy issue with mouses is that they need re-lubing, they need sections added in after a while, they can get hot on longer higher speed runs meaning you have to change them out, changing them out isn’t supposed to be all that easy unless your TB and they’re not cheap.
As far as stopping flats and peace of mind for rims on rocks and nasty shit you couldn’t make a better choice.

Moto, fronts dont suffer from heat failures like rears as they dont have all the power through them less heat they use front on all the high speed races
PS I have never failed a front or rear mousse although I thought I had a rear fail once on a hot day I was wrong
But YES rear mousses suffer on hot days like on Safari and Dakar
I only relube mine when I change a tyre so thats no extra hassle.
Fronts are easy to change (unlike rears) four levers nothing else easy as
Crash does his with 3 levers
You will get 5 years + out of two mousses I have, cheap piece of mind

Yeah Moto!!
April 15, 2010 at 5:04 am #176126I have been using the scorpian xtra on the back for a while now and have had no real issues. Only that when the tread gets low they seem to lose traction easier. But I turn them around for a new sharp edge and there fine for another few hundred kms. I like the high profile of the rears, it keeps pinch flats to a minimum.
I used the mid soft scorpian front for the 4 day and leading up to the event and they performed really well. In the sharp rocky stuff you lose a few knobs but the bike always went where I pointed it. I had a scorpian xtra on the front just before the 4 day and felt good too. It handled the rocky suff better and I will probably use them from now on.
Kram – I’m converted on the mousses. They give you more confidence riding in rocky sections and you find youself ridng faster with more balance. I have dented my rim a few times though because you just don’t care what you hit.
TB – Medogrockets flat was before he put goo in the tyres. It was part of his 10min work period on the start of day 2.

think i agree with you on this bruce i had a lot of trouble in single track trying to get the bike to turn in with the 952 rear tyre thought it was just me untill i changed the tyre .it did last well though

I was going to say it would of had to have been a pretty serious hole or tear for the goo to fail. I run fairly low pressures and havnt had flat yet. Not to say I never will but i do have a lot more confidence now
