well ive just got home from an awesome days riding!!!
im dying for a hot shower as im starting to ache in places and im starving too.
here are a couple of shots of adrian that came as a result of missing a gear and finding neutral…….well, aledgedly anyway:P
the bridge/jump was a little scarier than it looks here, it was very slimy coming into it and you had to be committed. it was about 6 feet deep and you didnt see it till you hit it…
i must say i said some choice words going over it:laugh:  :laugh:its your ride adrian, you should start the ride report:P
im off for some grub and a tub……more to follow

July 12, 2009 at 9:45 am #143276Myself menace, choppa and three non bulls set of into the Wombat State forest in Bullengarook Victoria today.Conditions were very slimy and there was plenty of water filled ruts that kept everyone on there guard. My mate Tim led the way all day with menace and choppa right on his tail.My brother Dave and menaces mate Frank kept the front runners honest and i rode sweep.to be honest i didnt really ride sweep i just couldnt keep up.Apart from the normal slips and slides all went well until the above photo jump.It was totally my own fault as i approached the jump too slow and hit neutral instead of second when i realised i was in trouble.I take pride in the fact that i have provided my fellow Bulls with there next caption photo. After the boys righted my bike i joined them at the top of the hill and said what are we waiting for? Off we went again and all went well until we made it to the entrance of what i call killer hill.Dave wasnt keen on tackling this and Frank backed out as well.I must admit if it wasnt for the crap i knew i would copped of menace i would of turned around as well.Tim menace choppa and myself took off to tackle killer hill and all would have gone well if we werent for three riders that were allready stuck about a 1/4 of the way up.ONce you lose momentam on this hill your stuffed.TIM and choppa made it up ok under trying conditions menace and i followed about 15 minutes later after having to walk the bikes a lot of the way up.I made about 3/4 of the way up and my superior lack of fitness kicked in.I was a very happy man when i saw Tim coming down the hill to ride my bike out. After the walk of shame up the hill my bike decided not to go.I eventually got it going by roll starting and rejoined the guys back in the safety of flat land.We then headed straight to the pig and whistle hotel in east trentham for a couple of soothing lagers and a roast lunch.the rest of the day went pretty smooth except us getting a little lost on the way back. There was plenty of fun had by all and i cant wait to do it all again. Many thenks to Menace ,choppa and Frank for joining us today as i actually hijacked a ride they had allready organised.I sure the others will fill in things i have forgotten.Vic Bulls Rule.

AnonymousWhat a picture:) Adrian.
Now I know that my brother from another mother will dis-own me here but wouldn’t it of been better just to leave the Kato in the hole where it belongs?
No seriously mate it’s good to see that nothing was broken and no one was hurt. Again excellent picture and it sounds like you’s had a great day.
July 12, 2009 at 8:43 pm #143323I didnt come out of it completely unscathed,my right knee is pretty banged up and i think my nose is broken.but worst of all my ego and confidence are shattered.
July 12, 2009 at 8:53 pm #143334Funny how those moments seem to happen in slow motion too. I bet you had one of those extended “Ohhh F#%k” moments!! Great pic!!
July 12, 2009 at 10:35 pm #143335Your not wrong mick i couldnt do anything to stop it.You should have seen the look on menaces face,he had a smile from ear to ear just thinking about the fun he`s going to have at my expence.
July 13, 2009 at 4:08 am #143341….and here is my version of events:laugh:
me, choppa and frankos packed the car and trailer with gear and bikes and headed across town to meet adrian, dave and tim at calder park, after coffees and foods we headed of through gisborne and into the bush at bullengarook, quite appropriate i thought:laugh:
we parked and got ready only to watch tim lay it down in the carpark!!!Hmmmmm, wonder how slippery its gonna be? i pondered.
we headed of and slid or way down the first track and along a fenceline. it was the wettest slimyest ride id had in years and there was no time to remember how to ride to suit it, you just had to do it. id forgotten how much fun it was!!!:woohoo:
i had to stop and take my jacket liner out as the riding was tight and i was cooking!there was water everywhere and all the ruts were full. and there were some bloody deep ones too
we wound our way through and came across a track that the local mountain bikers had claimed as thier own. dave warned us about a timber bridge that they had built. we headed in there and found all kinds of timber contraptions, like berms and step offs. it was a great track. we got to the bridge and it was a doozy. it was prolly 3-4metres long with a right kink and a bit of a kicker ontop of the up ramp. it was a 3+ metre drop in the middle too!!
tim, who is a gun rider, rode across it. i saw the bridge flex and looked at the drop and thought…Naaaaa:laugh: :laugh:in hindsight me and choppa reckon if dave hadnt of talked it up, and we just rode the trail, we would have just rode over it, sh!tting our self all the while, but rode it. it was pretty spooky.
anyway, the rest of us rode around. dave then told of another little obsticle. a half bridge that we had to jump.:dry:we roosted off again, the 300 is a little touchy to say the least in the wet. the map switch made no difference. and the rooted S12 rear, offered little comfort. the metzeler on the front was sh!t, and upon closer inspection, it was found that most of its knobs were split in half!! i reckon the rocks on last weeks avon ride had stuffed it…..it was nasty on the clay and there were many a crossed up moment and 2 wheel drifts across the track during the ride:woohoo: :woohoo:
we came across the bridge/jump, which we will call Adrians trap:laugh:
i watched tim and choppa take it on and i took off. into second to launched over it. as i approached, it looked about a foot wide. when i hit it you realised its more than a bike length acroos and 2 metres down and felt a jolt of fear:laugh: . i love jolts of fear:P.
we had stopped to watch frank and dave cross. the next thing i know i see adrian and the kato dive like a seagull onto a chip and adrians head bounce in the mud where his back wheel should have landed. we all ran down there, adrian was already up and gave us the obligatory adrenalin fuelled, “im ok”!!
he looked at me and i could read what he was thinking and i broke out laughing:laugh:  “im never gonna live this down on OBT am i” he said…..”No” i cackled!!
i took a few happy snaps and we dragged his bike out of the creekbed.
his nose and knee were sore but we were all happy to see him come out reasonable unscathed from what could have been nasty.
his pride however stayed on the other side of the bridge and could not be retrieved:laugh:  :laugh:soon we came to an intersection and stopped to discuss whether or not to tackle “killer hill”.
after much debate it was decided that dave and frankos would ride around and the rest of us would do it. i was hesitant as my tyres were pretty useless, but i couldnt say no!
we headed down the rocky, slimy rutted hill into the valley. at the bottom we were met with “killer hill”. i preferred to call it “what a f****n bl***dy stupid idea this hill was!!!
it was a single track up with twists and turns and rocks and slime. there were riders already stuck half way up so we waited. tim took off and tryed to go around them, getting an earfull off “old mate” for roosting him, it was only a couple of bits of mud that hit him…..  bloody sook!!
he got up there with his dunny D952, that was running about 6psi..it looked flat!! choppa battled the berg up with few dramas and was gone. i took off and went well for the first bit but then lost momentum from bouncing off a few rocks and ran out of traction. i had to push the bike up running, clutching it in 1st and panting for breath, to a piece of “flatter” ground. that was only half way up!!! at this stage i wished id gone with dave and frank. adrian was still stuck 50m down the hill. tim went down and rode adrians bike up, while he did the walk of shame…..we were both knackered and had a rest.
adrian somewhere on killer hillthe rest of the climb was easier but momentum was still needed as it was slippery and crossing logs and weaving around trees kept the pace down some. i really needed a smoke when i got to the top!!
tim
adrian, in a rare upright moment:laugh:
the trusty kato in a beautifying mudpack, great for the complection:laugh: :laugh:we dirt roaded it to the pub, the pig and whistle in east trentham, to meet dave and frank, who hadnt arrived but soon turned up. we told them they had made the better choice of going around the hill!!!!
we had a wicked roast lunch with all the trimmings and a couple of pots and a laugh. magic!!
leaving the pub it was bitterly cold and we couldnt wait to get back into the tracks where it was warmer. we were all going a little faster after lunch. it was event free except for Adrian taking a swim or two, franks minor dirtnap, and taking a few wrong turns into dead ends.
the last 20 mins to the cars was hectic with me choppa tim and frank all duelling. i think we all ended in a deep rut or two. one nearly swallowed the kato. it was halfway up the radiators!! but the 300 pulled out with a gurgling scream. i think choppa had his nearly up to the seat with water and it kept howling! gotta love the air filter on the new berg…right up under your balls!i was testing my pivot pegs on this ride and i didnt really notice them until i stood up, then it felt wierd. it think it made wheelstanding easier though as i was pulling some pearlers, (well for me anyway).
i reckon i spent 50% of the ride as a passenger doing 2 wheel slides…it was wicked fun:) im amazed i stayed on top of the kato all day!!
we all packed up and drove to the car wash in gisborne and discussed our next adventure while hosing the steeds off. thats the OBT spirit!!
it was a fantastical day had by all. thanks for taking us up there Adrian, dave and tim.
and congratulation mate on hosting your first OBT ride. top job mate;) may it be the first of many.
hope your not too sore today, how is your snozz?
menace
July 13, 2009 at 4:28 am #143376That jump is wrong, you would come down that hill and shat yourself and freeze up and bang, I would be worried about the jump collapsing, as it was only built for ball chaffers and their half bikes
Nice report and pics guys

July 13, 2009 at 4:41 am #143377That is a very nice ride report Dennis ,, congratulations on another sucsessful ride, and your excellent photography once again shines true..
well done
July 13, 2009 at 4:54 am #143378Nice one Spider Menace.
You call that a mud pack? I can’t wait to see you up here in October, I’ll show you greasy my friend:woohoo:
July 13, 2009 at 6:43 am #143380Too right TB thats what i was thinking as i slipped down the hill knowing all to well i didnt have enough momentam to cross it and not enough room to stop.In hindsight i should have laid the bike down.In future i will not travel that track.I sure menace may have fallen during the day but i was to far behind to see, come on choppa give us the dirt.
July 13, 2009 at 7:14 am #143392na i didnt stack it…..
but i did come mighty close on many an occasion.
one of those moments was going down a hill and giving it a blip on the grip, just for a split second, and starting to pendulum till i hit full lock, im thinking its gonna get ugly, then the front wheel starts to match the rear ones slide, then i knew it was gonna hurt, but im somehow transversing at 90 degrees down the track, as if to defy nature and all its laws, only to feel the rear get some grip and send me doing the same thing from the other direction, then, saying my last prayers while im looking wide eyed at the massive “lake sized” puddle rapidly approaching, it centres and i find some traction on a piece of bark and manage to pull up the front and roost out of there in one piece, feet still on the pegs…….that kind of close:blink:  all you can do is take a deep breath and yell woohoo:woohoo: :woohoo:
it was all ar$e and no class:laugh:  but f**k me, was it fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was at times, like a puppet on the bike. it felt like someone else was in control and only the strings were holdin me upright…
July 13, 2009 at 10:08 am #143396cheers to adrain for a great ride pity we didn’t get some more
photos of the mud and ruts some of them u to the radiator guards
if you were unfortunate enough to get into the wrong rut.anyway great day don’t think i’ve ever had to cross so many logs and
tree roots in one day before.and menace at the first stop ripping the liner out was funny to see as
there had been some debate between menace and myself as to whether it
would be required or notcheers for a great day go vic old bulls
