ive been looking for another header pipe for my yz 426 my ones dented and has a wicked twisty crease thing in it. I found one on (trade me nz)
brand new for $50 :woohoo: :silly:even has the exhaust guard…On a slightly sadder note tims yz 250 blew the front fork seals:( $100 to have fixed:( anyone use those neoprene seal savers ? that slide over the fork leg?February 3, 2009 at 12:48 am #120439I hear a whisper on the grape vine that the OldBulls store will have them soon, keep your eyes glued, they will be there according to the whispers;)
February 3, 2009 at 12:54 am #120443LR, have you tried the water freezing method to get the crease out of the header? Seems to work pretty well from what I have seen.
Mate of mine has those neoprene fork gaiters and reckons that they are better than nothing. Not great though.

The other way is to get some industrial ball bearings the same diameter as the ID of the header, wack em in one after the other as they are forced thru the dents are pushed out;) Yamaha’s are renowned for doing the fork seals, the biggest problem with them is they dont have enough protection from the mud flying off the front wheel as the gaitors dont go all the way around.Neoprene should help if you clean it after every ride.
cheers Ollie

Ollie I like the ball bearing trick. have you tried this before, if so how much did the bearings cost and how many would you use, also the freezer trick is a long a slow process as it only does a little bit per cycle and getting the tide height right and in the right spot of the pipe can be a drama, you have to put the thing at some funny angles, I found that a mates workshop freezer was the go but it did take several thawing and refreezing cycles, if you have the time and patience this is the cheapest solution I have found….I still like the idea of big ball bearings…….i am getting a smile just thinking about the look on my young fella’s face (he loves marbles) if he was to see a steellie of that size:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
February 4, 2009 at 6:22 am #120576I have seen the ball bearing trick done, you have to get the balls from and old race out of a tractor or a truck.although bearing shops may have them also.My bikes have mostly been two strokes so this method dont work,
ollie
Ps Dave thats 3 things youve learnt from me know:laugh:
