I asked my Dad if he was keen for a bush walk and he was but I think he started getting sus when I loaded up a backpack with pruning tools.
We covered about 8k of good trail that had been over run in spots by lantana. Together we spent four hours chatting and chopping and generally getting the trail buffed.
I posted some shots for anyone contemplating coming to Mullaway on the 9th for a blast of Wedding bells SF.
Before:
After:
And some assorted shots to give you the general idea
And here is Dad hard at work
And some more freshly manicured singletrack
And a bit of local scenery
Hope that wets some appetites and if so I will see you all on the 9th.

If I can work like that at 67 I will be very happy. I cooked him a big dinner and feed him some home brew so he is just about ready for bed:)
July 26, 2009 at 10:23 am #145291Thats so cool you and your Dad together. I have been mulling over the idea of a working bee in the Watagans with the NPWS or the state forestry, we would contact them, have a saturday up there and a ride Sunday, would be great promotion, we could camp over and have a social gathering, we need to put something back to pro-long the life of our sport. Question is who would help out be embarrassing if no one turns up will get around to it in spring am sure everyone that rides up there could spare a day.
Again great you and your dad out there, those trails look sweet mate, at least head ons wouldnt be to bad out there in that going

July 26, 2009 at 10:28 am #145293Taking ownership of the trails and maintaning them shows the powers that be that we are not just there to take but also to give.
It is a great idea TB to invlove the authorities in an area like the Watagans and show that our use can be sustainable and not destrutive.
I am sure through OBT you could get massive man power mobilised.

Yeh it is a great idea! I have already started marking area’s on my map that need attention. I have also managed to get a lit bit of material from work to construct a couple of bridges etc. Just have to organise a day to do it. Gili and I will be going up one weekend soon to do some repairs and link up a couple of tracks,so eventually I will be able to lead another ride.
ST those tracks look sh#t Hot mateB) Great to see your dad getting involved as well. Keep it up

Yeah thats great Ollie but the idea would be to repair want they want done, not so much make new tracks, we need to been seen repairing what has been stuffed by over abuse
I will get onto it in the months to come

July 26, 2009 at 11:09 am #145297Yep I know thats what you were implying;) I am not so much making new tracks, just repairing older ones that are no longer used much and have lots of Lantana and fallen tree’s over them. I have mesh for some area’s that have severe ruts going through some creek beds etc.
Probably the wrong thread but put my name down for a weekend in the Wato’s mate.
