You could syringe the new oil in from a measuring jug through the bleed hole if you cant get the cap off

Looks like a Dual chamber fork cap different to cartridge fork. The ktm chamber fork tool would be the go and would’nt be too expensive would it?

just use a normal spanner moto undo the nut as per normal the spring adjuster is just on a thread and will only go so far and the top of the fork will come of .and when you do it up again it will come loose again so you can adjust the spring preload when you tighten it back up

I have got the proper socket to do the KTMs forks with the preload adjustment, if still required you more then welcome to borrow it.

Cheers for the replies guys :)

Rocket that’s a good idea if the cap isn’t too tight, may give that a whirl. Otherwise I may have to buy BarKer some beers and borrow the socket.

TB – I’m pretty sure it was just dirt that got in the seal and caused the leak, oil is cheap so I’ll top it up first. If it leaks again I’ll get a new seal and replace it.

Filling the oil from the top with a syringe is only good if I can get the cap off. Because the ways the forks are designed you have to fill too the very top and actuate the fork a few times then remove the oil down to the required height.

I might set the oil a little lower than whatever the left one (good one) is currently at. Just need to find the time to do it before Coffs now.

Good luck would be suprised if it doesnt leak again

Doesnt it have a bleed screw? Are you saying you have to remove the top cap complete to bleed the air out of your forks?

    So would I

Yes, the forks have a bleed screw for the air. I’m saying that when filling the oil up in the forks (assuming from near empty) that you can’t simply fill to 120mm from the top of the fork (or whatever the air gap is you choose to run). You have to fill to the top (without the spring) and then move the fork up and down a few times, top up and then finally REMOVE the oil down the required air gap height.

This is because oil can sit in an inner chamber in the forks and the top of the inner chamber can be higher than the oil level when only filled to the air gap height. This would result in less oil in your forks than you actually require :)

I have successfully used long pointy nosed plyers in opposite holes with a screw driver in between to undo, quite easy.
Just make sure the top tripple clamp is lose…..:)
