Got recomended motol 5100 then read something fron Hinson that clutches dont like synthetic oils mineral is best so being that snythetic is better for the engine I thought that the motol 5100 was a good comprimise being a mineral base synthetic oil but I have always had to muck around with the lever adjustment at the start of the ride and mid ride. And if a long enough rest was had the adjustments would start again! I spoke to my local and they said that it was normal.BUT I Had a full go on some serious hills and now the clutch is sticking and when it gets hot it works better its not slipping its just sticking! I have tried adjusting it to no avail the clutch has done 2700 kms has anyone else had similar problems with this and could it be the oil as I have been told this also:unsure:

Hey Mick, I have been told semi-synthetic is the go, I’ve only got less than 300k’s on mine no problems yet.

    Cheers

Hi Mickust, Mate I can say that I have total faith in the Motul 5100, I have 33,000 kms on a KTM525 with no problems at all, I would be looking at other reasons why the clutch is misbehaving, I just dont know with the blue though, I have friends that have blue and they have pissed off the yamaha clutch and run the white brothers clutch pack and the 5100 with no hassles at all and big kays as well

Did they piss the blue clutches off before the expirery date or did they piss them off because of performance problems?

They were having dramas when they were hot, they were no longer hooking up as quick, just like you said

Hey Mick, just been reading a heap about the wr clutch, seems they had issues with the 07, 08 models but have fixed on the 09, doesn;t do us much good.. Read something about adding a washer into the clutch assembly google wr250f clutch problem and you’ll find it.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Yeah found it not sure about were that washer is supposed to go but I might take the clutch out for some air and check for glazing and go from there will let you know how I go!

Be interested to hear what happens with this Mickust, I run motol 5100 and have since new, I have sinted plates in my bike so the clutch wouldn’t be affected.

I think its something else with the clutch, Chicken has the same sort of dramas when his bike gets hot since we changed his plates with non-genuine items

Rat would you please explain the above, when I first saw that I thought you meant to post in the joke section, then I thought its a typo should be 3,300kms!

Now before you all cut sic and try to defend the orange make, here’s how I came to the above decision

1, White rockets KTM530 is worn out and needs a top end rebuild at 150hrs

2, Mick told me on the phone today Ants KTM 530 is getting tired and is about the 150hr mark or less (is that right the hrs on it Mick?)

3, I know a bloke from down south that owed 3 525’s, he looked after them, good with the maintenance etc, one was rebuild before 190 hrs, one cut itself in half at while trail ridding with his son (dealer said piston pin failure, should have been changed at 85hrs had done 87.9 by the meter) Dealer traded him into the 3rd then rebuilt the failed 2nd one, 3rd he sold with 9hrs as was fighting with dealer regarding oil consumption complaint. This in mind, you have been blessed with yours.

4, Mate Ace took one with 12 odd hrs on it the the cape with us in 2004 and was told by the dealer it would need to be rebuilt when he got back because he would do around 1800kms (he only rode from Cairns to the tip, not back)

That’s my experience with KTM 525’s, oh by the way, Ace’s was a nice bike tom ride and had heaps of power, handled good as well.
