    Geez I hate clutches!!!!

I’d pull the thing apart, see what the plates look like and see if it all works like it should cold and with the covers off. THEN if the fault still remains try another fluid. For my mind I can’t think of any other reason for it to play up as described unless it was the fluid.

Take the Vor clutch for an example…I rode for ages thinking all my clutch feel was going…did the on-the-fly adustments, bled the system and even with the assistance of some helpful pirates ouldn’t work out whythe clutch wouldn’t disengage. Turns out the nut holding the basket in place came loose allowing one of the plates to jump out and sit out on top of the basket. Resulting in stiff as clutch at the lever and constant drive.

I was blaming the fluid! Somehow after everyride this issue fixed itself!

This may very well not be your problem but always start with the simplest cheapest fixes first i.e. fluid.

TB, From the Log Books that I will show you one day

    5/5/2000
    0 km, 0 hrs, 0 litres used

    10/8/02 (540 kit added)
    9,735 km, 237hrs 53 min, 671.76 litres used

20/4/03 (576 stroker kit added- new main bearings only)
    17,061 km , 419hrs 42 min , 1115.22 litres used

    31/1/07 Head finally died
    33,104.38 km, 816 hrs 26 min, 2186.44 litres used

TB the statement of 33000 km was from this data,
I can go through the crash log (yes I keep a crash log for parts bent and broken) and also tell you I have had 37 hard drops on the bike(148 soft drops) and when I say that these machines take the most, this is what I meant.
I went through the Yamaha logs for the 94 and 96 YZ250 machines I killed and both of them only had around the high teens as far as big busters go and both were sold as bent and busted units with both nowhere near 100 hours on them. I have parts logs as well and other than consumables for all bikes I have owned (oils, tubes, tyres, chains, sprockets, pads, filters, ect) the Katies have been the most cost effective.
The KTM use more consumables , but for the whole time they are giving you more bang for your buck

That’s why the degree of belief in the product my friend
    Dave

Just as a last note, I went through Dad’s KTM Log and the XL250 Log and the TTR log and there is around 17,000 kms I have put on them since 2000, no wonder I dont remember what sex was, I just laugh when you guys talk about it so I feel like I fit in:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

33,104.38 km, 816 hrs 26 min, 2186.44 litres used. That equates to about a litre of oil every 15km. You must do lots of short ride or carry heaps of oil around. I used to have a hyundia excel with 400,000km that didn’t even use that much oil.

if i kept records like that i think it would SCARE me how much moneyi have wasted over the years on bikes just don t want to know.have you seen a pistons out of these modern race bikes its a wonder they last as long as they do sigle compression ring short short skirt spose thats why they rev so hard

At $15 a litre, thats over $30,000 or $1 per km just in oil. Yeah I can see how KTM’s are cost effective. Makes me feel like a complete tight arse. The poor DRZ is expected to do many more km’s on a litre of oil. My calculations may be wrong, i’m no accountant and not known for my mathimatics but that seems excesive.

Not trying to bag any bikes out, I understand high perfomance race bikes are going to cost more to maintain. It’s just those figures blow my mind. If I had to spend that to keep a bike going I wouldn’t be riding.
