Has anybody else replaced the rear guard on their WR with a YZ item.I have ditched the rediculously easy to mame stock rear indicators with smaller ones. Just wondering what you(or some bike you have seen) did with the indicators. I have see people drill holes nearer to the seat but that was on a wr guard. The YZ guard wont have the underside protective guard to hide the wires in. What did you do with those. Mine is an 01 but think the rear guard did not change to much until about 05? Thanks

Sorry AAron, didn’t see this at the time, to answer yes, and my ’03 style WR guard was replaced with the newer shaped one from acerbis from meory, much sleeker and cleaner.

    this is it

Thanks Bruce I did end up putting on new YZ guard but from a similar vintage to the 01 And drilling and bolting on some small flexible indicators. I will post up a photo to help anyone else thinking about it. The original is much heavier and not as good at handling the abuse I throw at it.

The wires are not as well hidden as the original but that’s the only downfall. Use heaps of heat shrink tube to protect it.

The smaller aftermarket indicators are bolted on to the guard through a hole I drilled. The left one has lost its cover but that’s all that has gone wrong. The main problem with fitting after market indicators is that the wires are always too short. Save your broken original indicators for parts. I cut the wires and soldered them onto the new ones so the connections were the same.

The guard is at least half the weight and I have not had to tighten the bolts once since fitting it before the Coffs ride. I put some core flute behind the number plate to add strength and its nice and light.
