Well its 3 years since this thread and I never was able to start it in gear, my new 07 wouldn’t either but on advice I had Hot Cams installed and starts in gear fine and no more top dead centre yet either.

    Hey Ev
Mines an 2011 with about 4500 is on it and it still starts in gear but not as often as when it was new, I think the state of the battery has a lot to do with it as well.
My son Tom fitted one of the super light more powerful batteries with the higher turnover rate and it is a lot better however, that’s not saying what TB said isn’t also a factor.

Thanks Cathi not EFI though.Does anyone own or Know of A late model WR450 that will start in gear?

Being an Ag bike I’d say it be an OHS safety feature

there is two reasons why your bike wont start in gear you have to bridge the wire on the clutch to by pass the safety device then there is the starter motor problem mine is f##ked after 5500 km had to by a new one know starts like it is a new bike again
