AnonymousOllie,
You seem to have heaps of gadgets on your bike so I was wondering do you have a Trailtech Vapor?I am very interested to know what the normal running water temp is both with and without the radiator shrouds.
I have currently removed mine to get the stress marks out with a heat gun and that got me thinking about what exactly they do. I assume that to a small degree they scoop the air into the front of the radiator but I am sure that they must also impede the exit air flow from the rear of the radiator, especially if you have radiator guards installed with the brackets mounted at the rear.
I am quite tempted to ventilate my old scratched up shrouds to help with cooling, plus it would give the bike that custom “factory look”
If any of you old bull…shitters have any theories or experience with what I am talking about, feel free to chime in. Even though you may not be priviledged enough to own a Yamaha, I am prepared to listen to what you have to say.

.Nigel I do have a new trailtech vapor unit but it is not fitted to bike(for sale $175 if anyone is interested;) )I dont worry to much about the bike overheating I try and keep the airflowing over it as much as possible.I have a 1.6 bar high pressure radiator cap in the parts bin but probably wont worry about it. I have even removed the overflow bottle,Theory is keep it moving No problems!!
PS The Newer Pumpkins Have Ventilated shrouds!ollie

I reckon they would work better if the bike was going backwards!!!!
They probably get in the way of any breeze from the side, when going slow!
I shoulda took em off when the bike was new, put em back on for selling…September 9, 2008 at 8:49 am #108045Jdubya wrote:

Jdubya nice to see your first post, welcome aboard mate

September 9, 2008 at 9:07 am #108046Gday Trailboss, Im talking about the front radiator shrouds!
Its hard to explain but if you could reverse those shrouds you would find that the “venturie” effect would be a lot more efficient then trying to ram air in thru the front!September 9, 2008 at 9:22 am #108051Jdubya wrote:

Nigel knowing your inventive nature and available time on your hands you should be able to knock up a radiator fan from some computer bits eh? easy !!

It is on the list but is low priority. I already have the fans put aside, but I have never had an issue with the bike boiling over, so can’t justify installing them at this stage.
I am getting closer to finishing my custom made Ducati mufflered(if there is such a word)hybrid exhaust system to replace the squashed FMF muffler. It’s a shame I didn’t take photos from when I first started as it has been quite an evolution. I can feel a new post coming on regarding it.

AnonymousOllie, I don’t know about my fabrication skills, but I am fantastic at hacking things to bits with a 4″ grinder to make bits fit!
