When changing the oil on their WR, does anyone else check the screen in the bottom of the oil tank? I have checked mine each time and it is always squeaky clean. I’m thinking that all I’m doing is putting wear on parts like the oil hose clamp, the hose itself, the screen, and bolts, all for no real reason!

I think I might give it a miss for a few thousand Km. Comments?

had wr400 for 6years never had any thing in screen but does not hert to check .mate had a xr400 blew up twise before they found out the problem the screen was blocked it was done at a bike shop think they would have checked it.they worked out that the person that sold the bike put some aditive in the oil to stop it blowing smoke that cloged the screen

I haven’t seen one tiny bit of crap in mine since I’ve owned the bike. But that’s a KTM ;)

Well I think the screen is there to catch bits when things go really wrong, like, say, a bolt working loose inside and then working its way through the engine, or maybe a circlip might come off a countershaft and have it work loose and flop around, that kind of thing. In normal running it would appear to be dead weight. I’ll still check mine, just not every single oil change.
