Met Jeffro at the back of Wyong.

Beautiful day for a ride and a bit chilly as usual.

Must be going soft in my old age with grip heaters, GPS and AirHawk.

We headed off about quarter past eight and did the usual up to the Letter A, heaps of enduro bikes up there now, and rolled into St Albans at 9.30.

A dog lying in the middle of the road seemed to be the only movement so kept going to Bicentenary Rd and the lookout.

Fuelled the bikes and had a drink at Colo Heights around 10.30 then off to Bilpin via Mountain Lagoon Rd.

after Bilpin we ducked off into Patterson’s Ridge which I hadn’t done before and was suggested by mark1957, thanks Mark.

Which brought us out at Kurrajong Heights where we went down Old Bells Line Of Rd to miss the windy tar and had lunch at the Café at the bottom at 12.

That hill has memories for me….buying my custom road bike leathers at Quinn across the road …….smoke pouring out of the front brakes trying to haul up my HK ute with my then girl friend, now wife in the passenger seat. Ahhhh the good times.

After lunch we took some back roads to Comleroy Rd and back to Upper Colo and eventually Green Rd

    Some water over a road

Webb Creek ferry to Wisemans for fuel and on to St Albans on the other side of the river.

Had a drink at St Albans and went home.

    Top day out.

Great report Lotsa. Looked like a top day for it too.

Met up with Lotsa this morning down the central coast way, a bit cool on the freeway but not too bad. No-one there when I arrived but Lotsa turned not long after.

Lotsa had a plan in his head along with some instruction on paper he got from the net. Now at this point I was expecting a nice leisurely ride through the country side, and while it was through the country side, it certainly wasn’t leisurely. Well not for me at least, following lotsa it soon became apparent that speed zones were advisory only and didn’t really apply to us.

We headed up the tar but it wasn’t long before we hit the fire trails, and hit them at speed. The pace was on (well it was for me, I think Lotsa was only cruising), I was going well keeping at a pace that was close to the limits of my ability. Every now and then I would zone out a bit and drop off without realising it, then sort of come to and realize he had gotten away from. That wasn’t such a problem as I new he would wait for me at some point, the problem was that when he was in sight I had a better idea of what was ahead and how tight the corners were. So then I would really push myself to catch up in sections where I felt comfortable, at 1 stage I was doing 129Kmh on the loose gravel roads near St Albans trying to catch him. I only know this because my GPS logged the maximum speed, I was too busy watching the road :D

All day it was like that, I am not complaining , I was having a ball, just saying is all. On the run home on the dirt through Yengo he got away again and try as I might he just kept getting further ahead.

Can’t tell you too much about where we went but Lotsa has covered that anyway. There was 1 food stop, 1 lookout stop, 1 drink stop, 2 fuel stops, 2 river cruises and 3 piss stops.

All up I did 520km for the day with the trip up and down the freeway included. Left home this morning at 6.45 and got home around 5. The ride reminded me of the old bulls biggest days out ride we did a while back, covered some of the same trails but had probably less stops :D.

The DRZ never missed a beat all day (excluding a little cold start issue this morning), I refuelled at the first pit stop at Colo and that was it for the day, I have got just over 300km out of the tank so far and haven’t hit reserve. Butt is a bit sore but that will teach me to sit down all day. I was running 14/42 gearing and sat on 120 to 130 all the way home on the freeway, I think if I were to be a lot of travelling at those speeds I would probably go to a 15 front (tip for the cc crew ;) )

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, HE WILL HAVE TO SLOW DOWN SOON AS HE IS RUNNING OUT OF POINTS

    AIRHAWK WILL FIX THAT :P

Great report and photo’s Lotsa & Jeffro. The speed sounds scarey but the rest sounds fantastic. Would love to do it one day but maybe after the trip when my speed improves.

    #185934

No come on the next one Kat, that way they might slow down a bit and I will be able to keep up then :D :D :D

,,,,,, and hey, your speed is comin along nicely I hear. ;)

Sorry Jeffro, didn’t realise about the speed.

You were never more than a minute behind and you looked like you were doing it easy. Just a comfortable speed for me; and uncomfortable on one corner actually.

The DR650 is so easy to ride on the smooth roads, which this ride was and it is pretty much a road bike in standard trim. It gets untidy very quickly when it hits erosion mounds or bumpy sections, which I’m looking at.

Katgirl, it’s not a race and don’t think you need to ride faster. So come along.

Next up, planning Denman pub for lunch on the 27th if I don’t get lost on the way.

    #185962

No worries Lotsa, I was working a bit hard but having a ball doing it. I did notice it was much easier to keep up on the rougher stuff too.

Maybe you can do this the 29th? or even 28th? I have the route mapped from the putty rd meet point.. ;)

I think he meant the 28th Krusty, just getting his date mixed up.
