I just thought I would join this site to get some advice. I got a XR400r (96) on a trade (basically for 150 US). I was wondering if anyone could recommend a book for re-assembly of it so I don’t leave out a critical gasket or over torque something. It is complete- was taken apart 6 years ago to paint the frame. The frame was painted, and then the owner left it at his brothers house for 6 years in boxes. All of the major components like the engine clutch, tranny, swingarm and such are whole. Anybody got an recommendations. I enjoy wrenching a little, but I would much rather ride. Pluss it is in the dining room next to the 2000.00 dining set, so the wifey also wants me to get it up or get it out.

    Hi Old Road Dog

It’s cheaper taking it to the mechanic than dealing with the wife. But in saying that there are lots of great blokes on the site who will give you great advice….

    Good luck

    Welcome Old Dog

Basket case or in need of some love  Where are you from? Is the motor complete, pictures would help, I know XR’s but again pictures would help.

I recently put an XR400 back together that our resident sepo pulled apart so it can be done :P I did the whole shooting match ;) And it worked

Gday Oldroad dog welcome to OBT. I hope you can put up with our Aussie Humour.Anyone that can drag a basket case into the dining room and gets away with it must have a thick hide, so I think you’ll be right.

AS far as a manual goes

You could try and download it here.

    Honda Manuals

I hope the link works as I am at work and it appears to be a prohibited site on our server.

    Cheers
