    Why would you grind the cam, its already done its life?

    I was thinking the same thing. I put it down to tough old XR’s though. Stating the obvious but, if you drind the cam won’t the profile/lift be different? Especially as it’s worn as much as it was, that’s a lot of grinding……

    roughly speaking young grasshopper they build it up with weld, new is better me thinks, but I only diagnosed the noise and problem over the the Internet I wouldnt know

    Oh right. Sounds like a shit way to fix a cam. Why bother with the effort when you can get a nice new one? Surely the cost difference can’t be that much.

    A new cam is $385 with a discount. I have one cam that isn’t to bad so we will see.

    Regrinds are old school, the old blokes could custom make you any duration and lift specs you’d want or need, true they don’t look as pretty but I’ve only ever seen windsor & cleveland V8s break cams ( oh and one bombed to the eyeballs yoshi kitted 836cc CB750 F1, but that was a starvation issue we fixed with external oil feeds and a spray bar.
