I’ve been thinking of going back to a single for OBT rides in particular.
I’ve always like the look of the Tenere, but today had a quick ride on an XT660R and was quite impressed.
Apart from the obvious (bigger tank, screen etc) what are the major differences between the R and the Ten? They are $3500 cheaper too.
Or if it wasn’t a Tenere would a DR be a better bet than the XT?
Thanks

There is an XT660R project bike getting around that I am sure you will be notified about real soon :whistle:Will you keep the Tiger as well mate ?
Would be sad to see that beast pushed aside ,,,,,January 7, 2014 at 9:25 am #253029EAGLE`02 wrote:You are waving flag in front of some excitable Bulls the Wigster

Would be sad to see that beast pushed aside ,,,,,No Mate, the Tiger would have to go. Unless I sell a lot more glass this year I can’t really justify 2 x bikes.
It is a great bike and I’ve just had a great week away on her, but some of the trails I’ve been punting it along with OBT have seen me on the edge more times than I care for (not the bikes fault). I think a lighter single might be the go for my rider skills, and a lot cheaper when I bin it.
Now tell me more about a 690…..(have you done the fuel pump yet!)

January 7, 2014 at 9:37 am #253024Simple answer is ,,,
NO
Still running standard pump with close to 27,000k on the clock.
Haven`t even had the filter out of the tank, which I have thought of a few times the past year to be honest :whistle:Tryhard (Joe) is also still running the standard pump, also no probs and even a few more ks than mine.
Good luck with whatever you decide mate, it is always a tough decision when there are so many good units available to choose from :woohoo:

January 7, 2014 at 9:00 pm #253026Gday mate, I have had an xt660r and i am now riding the tenere 660. The r is a great bike with a good 250+km fuel range and a different power curve to the tenere it is still a great bike. I am thinking of buying another one and running the barret high exhaust and a few other mods and using it as my weekend tourer. nice and comfy riding position and a good handling bike i think. Good luck with your desicions… My only reason for up grading to the tenere was the picture….i seen a pic of the new tenere in a trail zone mag and the local yamaha dealer told me they were on there way and that was that, i got me one of the first new age 660’s in 2009 and now have just under 40k on the clock with out a problem in the world. All the best.

January 7, 2014 at 9:31 pm #253042The R needs the foot pegs lowered and moved back. Even with that done I think it would still be to small for you

There is a Ten up at Fredrickton (Nr Wauchope?) with only 2500 k’s on it. Looks pretty stock, for about 10 grand. Have I got time to get there, buy it and get it farkled for the Nav ride?
Probably not. I was really interested in that one down at Bateman’s Bay. Had everything done I wanted but just didn’t have the time before Christmas to get there due to moving my business and I think it’s gone now.
I should have jumped on Wolfie’s yellow one when I had the chance. Bloody kicking meself!
You have obviously seen this months Adventure Rider mag about the Ten. Now that’s what I want!
I thought the stock Ten was plenty poky enough, but putting a Barret single on and removing the cat seems the way to go. Easy job?

Check on the Batemans Bay one to see if it is still there mate, I am going down there on Friday and could have a look at it for you if it is still available.
I am taking the VW and could bring it back for you if it worked out.January 15, 2014 at 2:18 am #253196Trailraider wrote:Wigster wrote:Trailraider wrote:So Wigster, any update on the new bike?? maybe in time for the first nav ride :whistle:Well TB, I am thinking long and hard about it. Short answer, Yes but bring your credit card  Done them in shorter time then that time frame btw. Deejay’s DR build comes to mind
