Well I have finally managed to pick up my old IT250J from my mates place in Jervis Bay. I am going to be doing a full resto on it,this may take some time as I have an RMX 250 and XR500 that I am also doing at the same time

THis is the what I have to start with:

    IT250J.jpg

I drained all the old stale fuel and used my new accessory tank to give it some fresh High octane two stroke.

The bike wouldnt start the compression reading was only 120PSI So I pulled the carby off and found this  Look at all the dirt she has sucked in. :(

After I stripped and cleaned readjusted the carb and put it all back together,I attempted to start her again got a few starts out of it for about 2-3 seconds which is good but would of liked more.

I pulled the airbox cover off and discovered this  Must have come from Wauchope originally home made battery holder and the filter is made from air conditioning filter medium that has been hand sewn on around the edges :side:

Stay tuned for more when I get around to it (This may take a while

Don’t worry Ollie, Whanny has left the site so to speak as there is to much of an age gap We are an over 30’s site or at least a more mature aimed site. The young ones are on an on going parole so to speak some will make it some wont

From a moderators point of view this thread is no worse then any other Ollie except you are interested in this one

It looks like some sort of box/ball protector or a wig for a homless man

Ollie the J was the third from last model wasn’t it, and the last with the early PDS with the shock under the tank and seat?

Reason I ask was I had a few IT125/175s as a young bloke and while the engines had some power the handling was “different” but the 250 was s’posed to be the best of the lot and i never got to ride on to find out, rode a 465 and a 490 and was not overly fussed on them either, thought the older PE400s turned better and had more usuable poke. But everyone raved about the IT250s so what’s your take?

Hopefully I pick up my IT250H resto project this week sometime. So we will be able to compare notes.

Anyone know someone with a RM125C ?? I found a set of piston rings for one I have been hoarding for the last 25 years.

I’m confused Mick, you want the rest of the Bike to go with the rings? …. Cool I’ve got the rear linkage and some bearings off an 1986 RZ500 sdo that’s where I’ll start my resto from……. :P

BTW I admire you blokes for doing these projects, don’t know where you get the time and energy, but go for it.

I would be interested to hear from someone that has a RM125C they’d like to part with too.
