Yamaha MXCC gates ready to drop at Dunedoo
The first grass-track motocross round of the new, Yamaha MX Cross Cup Series is set for blast-off at Dunedoo (NSW) this weekend.
Hundreds of dirt bikers will flock to the town to take part in the race, the third in the six-round Yamaha MXCC.
Dozens of riders from the local area will take part, including speedy youngsters, Hunter and Lachlan Colbran, from Dubbo.
The boys mum, Mardi, who’s also the President of the Dubbo Dirt Bike Club, said they were “very excited” about this weekend’s contest.
“Unfortunately we had to miss the first two rounds of the series at Orange and Clarence/Lithgow, but some of the other boys from the club raced them and enjoyed them,” Mrs Colbran said.
“My kids have never ridden on a grass-track, so it will be something new for them.
“The youngest, Hunter, who’s five-years-old, has only been riding for about month so he’s all excited.
“Lachlan’s eight and has been riding since he was five… he’s looking forward to racing as well.”
The aspiring racers will have some stars of the sport to look up to this weekend, with the likes of teammates Danny Anderson and Beau Ralston set to take on the Pro categories.
Ralston (Yamaha MX Rad) said he was hoping to win the Pro Open Championship class. After the first two rounds, he has a 31-point lead over Nathan Brochtrup, who will also be competing this weekend.
Anderson missed the first round of the series and is sitting ninth, only 25-points off leader, Matt Moss.
Organiser Phil Sargent, of Dirt Bike Promotions, said the first two Yamaha MXCC rounds had been “a huge success”.
“We’ve got a great spot for the track at Dunedoo and we’re looking forward to bringing back ‘Thumper Nat’s-style’ racing to OZ,” Sargent said.
“We got a good spectator turn-out at the first two rounds and several leading racers, including Matt Moss, Tye Simmonds, Kade Mosig, Beau Ralston and Jason Reed.
“Our events bring a lot to the local economies of the towns we visit and our races are a great family day out for people to come and watch some of the fastest racers around.”
Gates this weekend (Dunedoo) will open at 9am Saturday and Sunday. Admission costs are (for Saturday and Sunday): $8.00/adult/day, $2.00/Child/day (5yrs – 14yrs), children under five-years-old are free. For property address and directions go to http://www.dirtbikepromotions.com.au
