Top racers to continue battle at Yamaha MXCC round two at Clarence
About 380 dirt bike racers will head to the Clarence Motocross Complex on February 21st and 22nd to contest the second round of the popular Yamaha MX Cross Cup.
The first round of the series was held at Orange on January 31 and attracted some of the country’s leading racers, who have vowed to continue their Yamaha MXCC bid at Clarence.
Organiser Phil Sargent, of Dirt Bike Promotions (DBP), said they were expecting top local racers to bang bars against the likes of newly crowned Australian Super X Lites Champion, Matt Moss, 16-year-old sensation Tye Simmonds and Yamaha MX Rad racers Danny Anderson and Beau Ralston.
Sargent, who is a former motocross champion, said DBP ran a motocross at the Clarence Complex last year and the event had been a “huge success”.
“The race we ran last year went off great, the riders loved the track and the facility and we’re all really excited to come back to Clarence and Lithgow,” Sargent said.
“We have had a huge response to the new series, with lots of riders and spectators.
“Our events bring a lot to the local economies of the towns we visit and our races are a great family day out for people to come and watch some of the fastest racers around.”
Lithgow-local mum Beck Dukes, who has three boys, a brother-in-law and a nephew all racing in the event, said she “can’t wait” for the race.
“We are all very excited,” Mrs Dukes said. “Dirt Bike Promotions pulled off a great round one so we’re looking forward to what should be another good round at our home track.”
Mrs Dukes’s sons – Riley, Dylan and Elias – won two of the classes at the DBP motocross at Clarence last year.
Gates at the Clarence Motocross Complex will open at 9am Saturday and Sunday. Admission costs are (for Saturday and Sunday): $8.00/adult/day, $2.00/Child/day (5yrs – 14yrs), children under five-years-old are free.
The Yamaha MX Cross Cup is a six-round series combining three different types of motocross, with two stadium, two grass track and two ‘standard’ outdoor MX races.
The series visits five different New South Wales’ locations: Clarence (Lithgow, February 21 and 22), Dunedoo (May 2 and 3), Canberra (July 11 and 12) and Maitland (October 24). Orange will also host the 5th round on August 22 and 23.
The series boasts classes for everyone from Nippers – four to eight-year-olds on 50cc bikes – to Clubman, Women’s All Powers, Pro Lites and Pro Open.
