Just wanted to share with you the amazing course I did on the weekend down near Bateman’s Bay. It was put on by the Academy of Off Road Riding – Lyndon Heffernan or also known as Heffo. (www.academyofoffroadriding.com.au)
As some of you are aware I’m new into this sport but after 2 days with Heffo I come away with so much knowledge on the do’s/don’ts and had opportunity to try these with expert guidance that my riding has improved and inturn my confidence has grown.
I went into this with only 6mths of riding with my boyfriend and one OBT ride (and popped shoulder after one crash). All my experiences to date had caused me to “Man Up” and seek tips on the trail but doing this course gave me the theory, the practice and the guidance I needed in a structured manner that started at the beginning – body positioning, weight distribution, Clutch, Brake and Throttle Control, hills, logs, jumping, creeks and sand, jumping, Ruts, Berms, Flat and Off Camber Turns. Even learnt how to do wheelie’s…
I managed to come away with the most improved award with the prize being Scott Goggles that will replace my very cheap model that fogs up when I’m hyperventilating…. which is always. It was nice of Heffo to point out that the growth was significant….
We spent time on a motocross course and it didn’t take long for the pee wee’s to workout how to get around me. It was good entertainment for the father’s who thought I was crazy… but very encouraging.
Here is a photo of me on a tabletop jump…Well at least I can now jump…. Don’t laugh at how big my eyes are….
Anyhow I would highly recommend this for anyone out there (women/men/young or old) who want to improve their skills.

Seriously I know I have more bad habits that I care to admit we could all do with a session or two.
Good job

March 2, 2010 at 4:38 am #172423Top stuff Katgirl, I know my kids always come away from MX schools brimming with confidence. I always benefit from taking them to the schools too, as I listen in on the lessons and pick up heaps of pointers that help in my general trail riding.
Keep up the good work mate.
Cheers
