Fitted my damper today, wasnt the easiest damper I have ever fitted I have to say but worked out great

    IMGP0249.jpg

    Original setup with bar risers

    IMGP0254.jpg

The ignition cover needs to come off, two phillip screws

    IMGP0255.jpg

Once the cover was removed it reveled the steering lock bolts are shear bolts. Once they are tight they shear and it prevents people unbolting the steering lock

    IMGP0257.jpg
    IMGP0256.jpg
    IMGP0258.jpg

I drilled a small hole in the cente and once I was sure it was in the centre I drilled it as big as I dared below the head height

    IMGP0259.jpg

I then used a drill bigger than the bolt shaft size to get rid of the head

    IMGP0260.jpg

I used an easy out and removed both bolts

    IMGP0262.jpg
    IMGP0265.jpg

Both bolts out, ready for the pin bracket

    IMGP0267.jpg
    IMGP0281.jpg

Once done I removed the standard bar mounts and mounted the bar mount bracket, it needed a spacer between the rubber mounts and the bracket

    IMGP0280.jpg

It was now I discovered I hadn’t listened to Steve when he said it is a fat bar mount, I flew down got Suttos and got a few sets of bars so I could try a few before I decided. (try that with your cheap US web shops  )
Once a set was found I bolted it all up and happy days

    IMGP0284.jpg
    IMGP0285.jpg
    IMGP0290.jpg
    IMGP0289.jpg

I then drilled and tapped a thread to mount my GPS

    IMGP0286.jpg

The only other thing need was a fat bat bark buster mount kit

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The damper and those gold bars look bloody awesome ;)

Thanks TB…how does the new steering damper feel on the road? i.e. in general and compared to the old steering damper?
Also, what exactly do you mean when you say “…it needed a spacer between the rubber mounts and the bracket”? What did you use for the spacer? It looks like a black bracket of some sort…please excuse the ignorance lol.
Overall how much does it lift the bars if you didn’t already have bar raisers?
I agree the black steering damper does look great with the gold fat bars!
    Regards Mick

    Haven’t tested it yet :(

Hard to explain, need to show or you need to know how the rubbers mounts look I think, used hardened washers

About 25 – 30mm I think but can measure it later and get back to you, I also fitted higher bend bars as well for the hrs that will be spent standing

    Yeah they do :woohoo:

I can now answer Mick it is a totally different bike and sand is a pleasure to ride to the point I actually went looking for soft sand on the Grafton ride we did last weekend in the creek beds to test it :)

    Hi there.

I was looking for some time for a steering damper (stabilizer) to fit on Yamaha XT660Z Tenere (2009); where did you get yours? I would really appreciate if you could give me some details.

I registered myself to the website especially to get in touch with you, and then realized that this is an Australian website? If so, even better; by the end of the year I will be moving down in Perth, WA. I shall update my profile with some pictures too. B)

    Cheers,
    Razvan

    Welcome Raz

Firstly the steering damper was purchased from Adventure Moto here In Australia. Email Steve at Adventure Moto at

    steve@adventuremoto.com.au

He maybe able to do something like ship it you in Romania or at least organise one when you get to WA later in the year, make sure you tell Steve you are an old bull member and that TB sent you ;)

Nickj and I will be in WA next year on our Teneres for a couple of weeks we should see if we can catch up.

If you enjoyed 10,000 kms on a Tenere check out the second installment 20,000

    Good morning (here is GMT + 2 B) ).

Thans for the swift reply; I shall contact Steve. I beleive the best is to get it when I will be down there; all these months I will be caught up with arranging the move to Australia ; quite complicated, I am telling you. I shall let you know my whereabouts once landed and will definetely meet.

I will surely put some data about me/bike/gear/etc and pictures as well B) . Today is my last day of rotation at work in Yemen  and tomorrow will leave for home, so I will be a bit busy with travel.

Once home, the plan is for a 5 days tour on the Black Sea Coast and Danube Delta, involving dirt roads and sand on the beach; I will be passing an old fort (2000 years old), will jump on a ferry across the river (see my Avatar picture) and ride along the Delta. Once back from the trip I will put together the pictures and movies I have made and place them on shared website available for download to whoever wants.

I have attached some pictures; see the other bike as well 👿

    Cheers,
    Razvan

Hi I am looking at buying a brand new Yamaha Tenere XTZ660, this will be my first bike and I will be on my learners :0 I have been looking at this bike and the BMW F650GS. The Yamaha wins hands down.
Thank you for the write up and highlighting the modifications that you had to make. It has made my decision that much easier to see that I have chosen the right bike for me.

If you can offer any more information to tyre types etc and if internal beadlocks are needed. Thank you again.

Welcome Muzza22au. No worries with the write up happy it helped someone, the next 10k is here (clicky click) there is some tyre stuff in the there.
Tyres are so very personal depends where you ride etc so much. For off roading as well as riding to and from the bush I would try a Dunlop 606 rear for starters (i cant get a run out of them but everybody else can  ) they grip up good. For the front I am running a Dunlop 952 at the moment, love it. It is a 100 profile so I dont dent my rim as easy, grips up awesome but isnt road legal :pinch: if that troubles you  insurance etc
Maybe try a Dunlop 606 front and be prepared to rotate it if it starts to heal and toe.

Good luck with the purchase, what area do you live in maybe hook up for a ride, again welcome
