Yellow Mountain 2008
There will be more photos posted soon this is what I have here at work so here goes.
Chicken arrived at my house on Thursday arvo and we proceeded to get his act together, we fitted new tyres front and rear both with mousses to his tractor
, he had new graphics for his bike and some front guard stickers for mine, yeah more bling! We adjusted his chain and basically fiddled around no end, we loaded the bikes and then and only then did he decide that his handle bars are bent!
So with the trailer connected we went to Ballard’s and purchased a new set of bars and a new pre oiled air filter from supercheap auto because it still had the dirty one from Capertee in it.I had to get mine and Lochie’s (son) swags rolled and organised and some food packed etc.
We left at 6 the next morning and drove to Orange. We had stop there for a hot choc and continued to Parkes bike shop for some grip glue for Chicken’s new bars! Hey did I mention it was raining, yeah sometimes pretty heavy but always raining. When we arrived at Tottenham we had a break in the rain to set the tarp up and then it rained and rained and rained we thought we would have river views from under the tarp. Around 3 o’clock it slowed and we pushed our bikes down for scrutineering, bikes 1 and 2 through and ticked off, paper work done and we went back and opened a rum or 7.
Benny and my young bloke Lochie
Mac and the crew turned up and introductions completed we got our fire going and watched people stream in.
Next morning was an early start for riders briefing and prologue, chicken really made his name chicken real this morning running around like a chicken with his head cut off!! Yeah he will say no he didn’t but he was worked up for the whole thing.
We completed the prologue with the following resultsChicken 138
Gilli 70 odd not sure Gilli?
Mac 196 or there about he had a crash
Jack 198
Bana 164
Trailboss 97The start
At this stage I can only speak for my ride and being there, if something is not right add it to the post
I left the start to trail ride the race, I had a good first 52 kilometres with no dramas I trail rode past crash and the kids waved to farmers. Then it happened my bum bag / tool bag fell off, I didn’t realise straight away and when I stopped I noticed the time was 13 minutes after the hr on my trailtech, I ran back down the track and then walked wishing I could run, got my bag and went back, I fitted it and rode off only to have it fall of again, again I stopped and picked the f*%king thing up, bikes are passing and I am rev checking by now just going off it was 21 minutes past 8 bloody minutes lost. I hung the 2 kilo thing around my neck forward and rode the next 28 kilometres to the first fuel stop, Crash was there so I left my bag there and fuelled, because I was of rev checking and pissed off I couldn’t wait for the slow nozzle to fill the tank so I didn’t fill it screaming at crash it will be enough, the plan was to not stop at the next fuel stop see. Of I went and got my fat arse of the seat, I was passing bikes and going well, no falls no dramas no moments it was ok. I noticed how rough the track was in places and just seemed to be banging my front rim on rocks all the time and was worried as it was Crashes front rim, mousse and tyre but pushed on, went through the next fuel stop and kept going, around 30 kilometres from the end it started to miss and I went onto reserve thinking this is not good! The fuel tank has the tap on the right hand side higher then the left which holds an extra couple of litres below the tap.
chicken
I backed of in the hope a economy run may see the finish line but knowing it wouldn’t, about 6 kms later at the end of a high speed paddock run it stopped, I had to lay the bike down and lift the wheels over centre to transfer fuel across, this I had to do 2 more times before the finish line but made it, no crashes and in one piece. The boys came in and we waited for the results
Results for day one got posted and looked for the old bulls like this
Jack 200 they started 212
Chicken 112
Mac 142 after the mother of all high speed get off, (broken hand)
Gilli 96 I thing Gilli sorry is that right or was it in the 80’s
Trailboss 76Now I didn’t have my heart in it at all, I wasn’t having fun, I put it on the trailer I couldn’t find a reason to ride back, I didn’t want to.
Jack had a clutch lever to replace, we adjusted Chickens Leatt brace, crash filled his tank and changed his air filter done
We had pork sandwiches with Macs crew, meeting scooter, glen and the boys was great and cant wait till Novembers xmas party.Day 2
Crash and I packed up camp and we and the kids took of for the whoops, the sight of Crashes big get of last year. Once there we set up our chairs and worked out it was 12 o’clock in the world somewhere and had some beers!
We watched the guns, brothers Grabham, and J Smith go through plus the rest of the field up until chicken go through. This was the high light of the trip just seeing the guns double parts of this section was great.
We jumped in the car and made the finish just as Chicken got there, we packed up and went to cheer Jack in, huge effort for a 16 year old on a 125 two stroke.
We packed up and went down to the trophy presentation, it was great, heaps of fun and funny people they handed out the finishing trophies I guess you could call them, I went and loaded Jacks things and when the presentation finished we left.
It was a great weekend, special thanks from Chicken and myself to Crash for his monster effort and looking after us and the kids for helping as well and behaving.
Big thanks to Mac and his crew, what a good bunch of guys and cant wait to get out on a ride with you all
Finally Gilli, first Old Bull Home what a legend!! Nothing more needs to be said he rode like a demon well done…
PS
Chris there was a KLX 250 there
Cheers TB
