The RideADV Simpson Desert Experience, where you get to attempt a double-crossing of the Simpson Desert along the famous French Line. This is a fully planned and supported ride with food and fuel. This ride starts and finishes in Birdsville SA with the route planned to follow the French Line across to Mt Dare and back to Birdsville.
As our extremely technical mud map above shows there will be two Bivouacs staged in the desert for all riders to refuel, get tucker and have a kip. Each camp will have two 4×4’s with Crew, 20L of fuel per rider, water, food and quick shades to roll your Bivvy under of an evening. In addition the ride will have our regular sweep crews to provide on-trail assistance.

Each rider will be given a Bivvy/swag and duffel to keep as part of your entry, which you can put your air mattress and sleeping bag in. The crew at each Bivouac will be there to look after you during your ride and to assist you in every way on your adventure. We request that you only travel when possible during daylight hours and have a working spot tracker and carry only your light weight Bivvy bed roll in case you get caught between bivouacs.

Because you can refuel (around 10L) at each camp, with each crossing your bike will only need to carry between 18 -25L of fuel at the start of each leg (You are required to start each leg, Birdsville and Mt Dare with a full tank). This should be all you need, as you will not be carrying the weight of additional water and provisions to load down your bike. Hell, you can even throw some spare undies in the support tracks for when you need them ;-))

Below ride plan gives you one example of how you might plan this trip…

    Day 1 – Birdsville to camp P

Day 2 – Camp P to Mt Dare (swim in Dalhousie Springs and a night at Mt Dare in a cabin at your expense)

Day 3 – Mt Dare to Camp S

    Day 4 – Camp S to Birdsville

Alternatively you may wish to smash this crossing in one day and take your time to return or you might wish to complete single legs to the Bivouacs getting to the edge of the desert and then turn around back to Birdsville taking your time and not going to Mt Dare. Hell it’s your ride, your adventure.
Numbers for this ride will be strictly limited to 30 capable riders due logistic restrictions and planning. To secure a spot on this ride your non-refundable deposit of $500 will need to be in to RideADV by the 29th April 2016. The total cost of this ride ex Birdsville will be $1250.00 with the balance of your entry needing to be paid in full by June 30th 2016 after which there will be no refunds.”
