The Hill we call Rowan’s hill (behind Rowan’s property) always intimidates me, I have never made it all the way up on my first go. It is the big hill that caused a lot of grief on my birthday ride this year.It has two very ugly rutted sections on it,one at the bottom and one right at the top. On my birthday ride it took us the best part of an hour to get all 30 bikes up it. Those who where there, will remember Crash’s heroic attempts at it on his 650 only to get a meter or so from the top of the first section only to run out of fuel.
When I arrived at the bottom on my birthday ride (I was sweeping at the time) The hill was littered with riders and bikes going no where. It was one of the highlights of my riding career to tractor the XR up the first part of the hill on my first attempt (Only to crash further up the hill). There were blokes looking for an option to detour around it untill I tractored the pig up, then they watched 68 year old Allan ride up it on his first attempt, then pride took over and they all had a go at it, with varying degees of successhere are some of Murph’s photos of the hill.
Kram laying down on the job.On the renta thrasher Kato450.

Quote:Pork Chop is a funny sort of hill. You hear all about it and the anticipation is there before you arrive. You see it for the first time a few km’s out and you really get scared as it looks even bigger than it’s reputation. You arrive at the bottom and think, bit rough but I reckon I got a chance, maybe it’s not as bad as it looked from the distance. You then have multiple goes and only get up the bottom third and you ride off into the sunset with hopefully only your pride dented. It costs more if your bike is dented though.I shat myself in the 2006 A4DE when I saw it in the distance and knew thats what was coming up  then there was two arrows fast way (up pork chop) slow way (pork chop) nearly everyone even world class riders went around we were told be spectators
Day 3 same hill and the KING, yes KING CRASH with nothing to lose as he was a restart (DNF’ed day 2) rode straight up first go   on the mighty HRC kitted XR400
All hail the KING
November 16, 2010 at 10:27 pm #190841“The Chop”…hands down.Worst thing about it is if you fall off there is no soft dirt to break your fall…just lots of sharp rocks to break your leg
Bol :woohoo:
November 16, 2010 at 10:44 pm #190872that photo really shows pork chop Bol when you see the rider stuck, shows its real size
Pork Chop as the worst surface as well I reckon
November 16, 2010 at 10:57 pm #190874There is a hill at Hampton (no idea whats its called) that me Bob and Green450 got stuck on. I got about 3/4 of the way on my own then the other 2 came and helped me push, then we pushed Bobs bike from about half way up it was getting dark so we left Green450s bike in the bushes (brand new KLX450 1st ride). I doubled him back about 15k on dirt and 15k on road to the pub.
Doubled him back in the morning and decided to try and ride it out the other way, it looked hard coming down but he rode it out of there with only a couple of little pushes from me and Bob.
The hill was long and just kept getting steeper and with bigger looser rocks the further you went up. It took us about 2 hrs to go 500m.
No pictures sorry
November 16, 2010 at 11:28 pm #190842“Yeharr hill” at Nundle is an amusing bitch
You have to start with a run up flat out and hit the lip (which has a nice little tree root which can bring you undone)if you sucessfully get over this bit, the climb the rest of the way is very difficult and exhausting.
Haven’t seen anyone yet make it all the way to the top without stopping, falling or crying.
Best part is that everyone can sit there and watch some monumental F$%@ ups :woohoo:As Mr Boon is showing us now :cheer: at the start.
Bol :woohoo:

Like all photos those musn’t do any justice to the hill because that looks like prime traction material with a reasonably straight and smooth line. Funny how things can be deceiving as this is obviously not a description of what is there in real life.
November 16, 2010 at 11:43 pm #190875Last year at the challenge, three of the Border boys conquered it, one of them on a DRZ300???
Yet we have thids little nasty hill called (H for hell, or V for V@gena, depends on the mood) here on the “G-Spot” trail that only one has ever got up, and he’s not one of those three.
Might post a pic later of it.

Yeah Roy, that is actually the easy spot between the two shitty bits.Believe me it is long and technical and I will never be involved in trying to get a big group up it again as there is always dramas.

I only crashed coz I was on a Kato
It is a mother of a hill but good fun. I’m not good at hills I feel like I need to be about 4 inches taller. It was worse when I had my wr 426. I could never start the bugger without being on the stand
Go the electric leg
November 17, 2010 at 10:51 am #190882There is a hill out near Buladelah that Huskybloke took us down one time that rates too, like I said we went down it and it was probably the steepest hill I have ever ridden down and is littered with tall steep erosion mounds. I had the bike off but in gear and feet out using the clutch and brakes levers to control my decent and still managed to fall. Tore the watch off my wrist (steel band) and I didn’t even notice, one of the other blokes spotted it and brought it down with him.
November 17, 2010 at 11:06 am #190922This one caused a bit of grief on the Coffs ride last year.
Then again so did this one
STM
November 18, 2010 at 12:12 am #190924Widowmaker at Coffs (STM’s last 2 photos) would have to be up there on the top 5 worst! Will be great to see some photos from the Coffs weekend of those with the testicular fortitude!
Pinapinga on the south west side of the Cells is a monster 2km of rocky rutted up hill, that seems to keep going and going and going. No photos as i am usually swearing and picking up my bike when i visit it.
