we had to buy a helmet off a local lithgow guy for $20 when we realized that we had left one back in sydney.
(good tip if you get there and you realize you dont have it on a sun morning get online and buy it from a local through trading post, ebay, or bike point)but we finally got there and it looked like the rain might give us a break. it had been raining all night so there was no dust and the ground was soft we started with some fast flowing single lines right away which were good fun.
then we followed the power line fire trails for a while and crossed the tar and got into some more really nice single lines.
even though sam13 had his fair share of wipe outs i dont think there will be any objections to me claiming the stack of the day award with my attempt to drop off a rock ledge that ended with a with a forward summersault and a failure to escape the wr450 that landed on me :silly:
Mal5.1 quickly asked “is everything ok?” and i said “yeah im fine no worries” he said “no i meant your bike”
cheers mate.
we got to the capertee pub and had one of the best t-bone steaks i had in ages highly recomended. the publican and his family are top people and suggest you stop there for a beer if you happen to pass by.
the rain set in for most of the trip home we took mals5.1’s route which was good to learn a new track.
A.D’s aprillia 550 which is a bit of a wild machine didnt miss a beat he only stepped off it once that i saw.
all in all it was a good day out probably around 140 k’s in total.im loooking forward to the zig zag to sofala via the capertee pub for lunch overnight trip hope we can put together another good group like this one

January 16, 2012 at 12:28 am #214542Great day out thanks Tony, Sam13 and A.D.
The day started a bit later than expected due to A.D forgetting his helmet. But the story behind getting one from Lithgow off the trading post was so funny it didn’t matter. And A.D wearing an old road bike helmet on a fire breathing Aprillia was also funny.
The tracks were great in condition after the rain. Tonys route was and excellent mix of singles and fire trail. All was going well until Tony stopped at a vertical drop that looked about 3 foot and then rolled off thinking the front will roll out of it. He hit soft sand and a small piece of timber and the front stopped dead. I was close enough to nearly grab his back wheel as it went over the edge but self preservation kicked in and I watched as he face plated and the bike slowly followed and landed right on his back. Tony picked himself up with no major injuries and none to the bike and off we went.
We got into Capertee a bit late, mainly due to the helmet incident. The servo was going nuts. Three people working and a shop full of tourist. Finally got fuel and old mate was very apologetic for the delay. Straight down to the Pub before lunch only to find new owners (22 months ago) and a heap of work going on. Lunch was order and beers consumed. Turns out the owner is a bike rider to and is setting the place to cater for bikes as well. So drop in if you’re going past for a great feed and a chat.
The tracks home were a bit easier and faster until I took a wrong turn and then we used Tonys GPS to find our way back to the main road. Once I knew where I was we headed for home. Sam’s legs were cramping bad so we stayed on nice open trails and it was getting late. I needed a fuel top up so I powered ahead to my bush stash to refuel and not hold the group up. It started to rain and I suggested we take the easiest route back to the cars before Sam’s whole body cramps. It rained for the last 40min of riding and then stopped just before we got the cars so it was a quick pack up before it started again.
Thanks for the day out guys.
I have a bit helmet cam footage that I’m going through ATM. Hopefully I’ll get some loaded up tonight.
January 16, 2012 at 2:14 am #214543I’m so jealous i know it was a great ride , but alas I was stuck at home just looking at my Hussaberg parked in my lounge room rearing to go. I was a sick as a dead dog coughing and spluttering with a chest cold, so wasn’t very welcome to travel with the boys and maybe infect them.
I missed out on Tony’s spectacular nose dive, and could have had a good old laugh to make up for all the times he’s seen me lay my baby over. Its just to tall but lots of fun .
I will have to get technics to lower the suspension if its possible or just ride like the devil and keep moving. Does anyone know if its possible to significantly successfully lower a 2007 Hussy FE 405E.
I know of a Yammaha 250 feul injected with a strange problem where it sometimes refuses to start , For Sale cheap , Ha! Ha!
Get that bike fixed, or sell it Sam13 , my God its in showroom condition what could be wrong.
Great report look forward to some pics and Im in for the next trip.
