Great post, great photos, I might even use a few of the photos – I did that ride from Brisbane (minus the weipa bit) at the start of may, although I wouldn’t recomend a KTM 525 for that again without some further thought for aftermarket seating….

(TB may or may not remember an old sh1tbox toyouta hilux with a 07 ktm 525 that wouldn’t start and held everyone up just outside of newcastle, tried roll starting down the hill to no avail) –

Did you get onto the frenchman’s track?

May sure you stop off at the lions den hotel and then do Bloomfield / coastal highway, and then through mossmans on the return.

Frenchmans track was also seen bloody sensational

I used Dunlop 606’s :first rear was still 2/3’s good brisbane to Mareeba, amazing for 2000+ km’s on the road, Swapped it out for a new 606 on the dirt just to be safe, just as well, it was well shagged (2mm left) by the time we got up and back to cooktown, love to know how your tyres held up on the big bangers (although we were on it – Up and back in 6 days, with a day off in the middle :-)

The place is so big, I bet you’re up for another trip soon…..

Here I was clicking on this post thinking it was about the 700 big bore/stroke kit for the berg 570…
Now that’s BIGGG (For a dirt bike) (and only if you ignore the dude that does the one loop of the vic blue light rally on a Katana 1100 with knobbies)

I’ve run two brands before on dirt bikes – WER, and Scotts (Ohlins)
.IMO Both are better then no damper.
Dirt rider in the usa loves the scotts, and I’m happy with it, and would spend the money again.

at the end of the day you either go with what you can afford,
go with the best value or
go with the best reputation(without cost consideration).

Scotts wins my vote, but WER was good too. I could feel the adjustment on the WER more then I can the scotts, which sometomes has me wondering whether it is working ( a sign of a good product!
My only wish – I’d gone with the under bar setup for the scotts. It’d lift the bars a tad and would remove that niggling voice in the back of my mind that says (go over the bars and it’ll tear your nuts wide open

The bike’s engines are turned off and the bikes are allowed to roll down the road. It’s quite safe as they travel quite slowly. The road in question is Hayes Road – quite wide and in good condition.

A race? Turn the engines off? righhhhhtttttt, I’ll pack the mountain bike.

    Great ride guys (and girls)
well organised (Preriding really showed results), good photos
    Random notes in no order:

Who was on the yamaha emerging from the abyss on one of the transport sections? All I remember is someone indicating to slow down, then round the corner a blue bike coming in from the greenery… (reminded me of the big bore 2 stroke days)

Damn decreasing radius corners on many transport sections – we’re lucky we lost only two riders – some roads would have been much faster in reverse

DUST? is someone training for finke next year? why wasn’t a sprinkle of rain ordered for saturday? (Don’t tell me there was no control over the weather – I want solutions not problems damn it!). It made me really appreciate the finke racers and the bitumen sections really had me thinking about the isle of man tt racers…

The old dude on the air cooled yamaha – IF i have to change fork seals so should he (Old AL???) top work on the ride fella – gave me inspiration for the next few years.

To the girls – top effort – just remember to weight the outside footpeg through corners and nail it on the way out….

Hamburgers should have been advertised as a feed for two

Sixty wheels, 200+kms (against generally hard and rocky sections) and No punctures -pretty good strike rate there !

I’ve got a map so I’m comfortable getting to the basin, but out of curiousity, who/where is Jerry and his Garage?
Is this sort of on the way from newcastle?
Or Is it just code for some form of German motorworks (I promise I won’t mention the war….)

PS Search did help me nor did the white pages…

Last time I was at Paddy’s ( a coupla years ago) they were talking of closing the entire area down thanks to a couple of folk that had recently bought into the area….
Is there still talk of that happening?

I’ve had three dells, with no problems excepting the last one which had a drink accidently (right…..) poured over it. all have been the business versions (D800, D600, atg630) the current one is a splash proof atg D630. (although should have bought the cheaper D630 and insurance).

They are all fine for the majority of internet work (that’s a code phrase for p0rn right?). even works well with cad apps the odd time that’s needed.

I’ve heard ASUS are pretty good – but check out choice or the computer mag websites for the best and latest bits. six months is a long time dealing with binary bits.

Mind you I’ve never asked mine to hiberbate, replicate or fornicate or any other 8 like aust blue has..

The short story – What a top ride.

The long story – we’re lucky to have guys like Lotsa onboard and up front. This guys’ got the ability to seamlessly join single tracks, dual tracks, fire trails and transport sections over 100+km’s of trails. What a maginificant ride – he lead us through tracks that had something for everyone – point and squirt trails for the WOT guys’, and tight single tacks for those that treat corners a little more surgical like (Myself – I’m in the third, unmentioned catagory – “legs and arms” with only two choices available – hang on via throttle or clutch).

Just as important – Jeffro bringing up the sweep position – another top job, I’d be buggered if I could ride, and ride, and continue to ride, always bringing up the rear like that, with minimal time to recoup.

My second ride in around 18months was an absolute ball, and I pulled up much better this time round – The day after and I can comfortably use most of my muscles without grimacing Yah…..

Not sure I’m a fan of those Watagan style rocky trails that seem to be a feature up this way though – I can see them catching you out under wet conditions fairly quickly. (Practice is my only option, at least that’s what I’m gunna tell the minister for war and finances).

Thanks to all the guys in between Lotsa and Jeffro – great day + great blokes = great ride.

Good stuff, oil that’s starting to look like the colour of oil and a singing bike- it’s all good, and no need to look back!.
PS check the throttle cables are free when remounting the tank – (what’s that old saying – do as I say, not as I do……!)

    Hi AB,
trust you’ve had time to pull the tank/plug by now,
have you had the 250 running at all yet?
(I’m hoping the bike stalled first and then it turned submarine) –

PS Id use the fuel for the lawn mower’ after adding 1/2 cup of metho.
    The bike/rider was well underwater:blink:  …

Oh and judging by the photos even the grade 4+ boys needed a bit of team assistance for some of the hills…
