Are you planning on making the Super Commuter an ADV bike Eags. Sort of a Krusty type of arrangement. :)

Jim was out one day inspecting his boundary fence on his newly owned cattle property in western QLD. He noticed his neighbor mending some yards and stopped to introduce himself. They did the usual greetings and current events banter. Toward the end of the conversation the neighbor said, “Since you are new to the area why don’t you come over tonight for a party.” Jim said “What sort of a do would it be?” The neighbor replied “There will be a bit of drinking then a bit of fighting followed by a little bit of loving.” Jim had been single for a while and said “hey that sounds great, but what will I wear?” The neighbor replied “It doesn’t matter its just going to be you and me!”

Hey Nick I like your new ride very nice. Will the road tires you put on it be road bias off road ones? Have never heard you talk about the CRF in the back of one one of the pics. My cousin lives on a property east of Armidale and it has a huge gorge on it that you can ride to. I have talked to some of the Tamworth OBT guys about organizing a ride up there. There is a great waterfall around Armidale also that you can ride to. I went there over 20 years ago but don’t remember too much. But I will talk to Ken and find out some more. We could camp etc. I could take the YZ over there as well so you could ride on the farm if we find some gnarly hills. But since you are putting all that protective gear on the Tenere you probably wont need to ride a different bike. One thing I did notice about the farm was the rocks  Just an idea that I had been stewing over.

Hey Mick, if you look close you will notice your bike has a flat rear tyre ;)

You will also notice the GTS guards in the back ground all the petrol heads chase. One mans trash another mans treasure. Definitely would have been a happy hunting ground for Bolls farmers shed post. But Mick and Kram already got the jewel in the crown in the YZ250. ;) I would dare anybody to go out and take them. But I would insist you take a camera so you could capture the event ala Blair witch style of Richard chasing you through the bush at night  I would even find out his no. so I could pre-warn him to ensure I got the funny video to post on U tube! Once again the best ride report I have ever read, your pain paid off with out loud laughing. :)

Great report mick was a very entertaining read. You could work for the local rag with journalistic skills like that. Funny that Richard left the WR where it died in the scrub. Glad to see you didn’t get stung around your neck. Fantastic Post. :)

Just checked out the dirtbike world link after all this time.thanks SB250. ;)
Seems you can get a CRF 450x and put a CR500 engine in it. You still need to get it to pass noise restrictions but they ony do this to get it to pass the test then return it to LOUD You just need the 500engine or a CR500 to wreck. Seems If I read correctly you can change the engine in any bike as long as you don’t increase the capacity by 160cc. I thought you would need an engineering cert?? The crf engined bike seems like a better bike than the CRF500e as it turns better. Doubt it would hold its value like a 500e but it certainly looks the goods.

My son Charlie is 7 and he was watching the fairly new Scooby movie and he yelled out for me to come have a look at it. The frame he had it stopped at had two quads and they were both 4T. He asked me if one of them was a 2T and I said it sound like it but it is not. How confusing is this for our next gen. Are the sound dudes secretly 2T freaks trying to change the world. How often do you see this done the other way round. What we should do is ask our resident 2T die hards Menace, Mal3.0 2T and Mr Blue etc, who know the secret handshake to check the data base of their club to see if the sound dudes are members.

At 200 Kg that would be heavy in the bush and he also admits it is “top heavy” which is the best place to have weight. That would probably be dry the “dry weight” too because as it is a Harley the oil would have ran out of it before they could weigh it! :silly: Funny how he says you must stay in front of the pack as you will need the rest of the guys riding with you to help pick it up if you drop it. All I can say is why would you do it?

As most have said decent quality is the way to go.

I know you only asked about sockets sets but with a couple more items you can get most jobs done…

This is my opinion only and others may differ. For working on bikes you can get away with a 1/4inch drive socket set most modern bikes are metric most sets have imperial and metric but you will find your imperial ones don’t get used much. I find sockets that have the six flats ie and internal hex are the best for using on butter soft bike bolts. This style drives of the flats of the bolt head and not the corners therefor less chance of rounding bolt heads. I also like the socket sets that have deep sockets included. 1/4 inch drive usually goes up to a 13mm socket. If you need a bigger socket you will have to go up to a 3/8 drive. If its only a couple of bigger sizes you need you could use a 3/8 to 1/4 adaptor and just buy those sockets you need. In my opinion 1/2 drive is to big in most cases for working on bikes.

Yes that is exactly what I have found Scott. I mostly use 1/4 inch on the bike as I find that you develop far too much torque with the 3/8 set. Those aluminum housings are so easy to strip. I even place the ratchet in my palm so the socket or extension comes out between the index and middle finger. I don’t have bolts come undone and I rarely use locktite. Although I have a 14 mm socket for the 1/4 set (wasn’t in the repco kit)I don’t like to use it as it feels like you will stuff the ratchet. I had to use a lot of 3/8 stuff when I reassembled the wr engine because I could only find a 3/8 torque wrench. This was a bitch in one case as one of the back bolts on the cam cap could not be done up with the torque wrench as it hit the frame :(

I wore out the last one you gave me and I have put a bit of weight on over Christmas so your Mrs hand me downs wont fit next time. So I was sort of hoping you could give me some of those suspender type things you wear under your riding kit

You are probably right Scotty. I think that the way forward for bikes will be with the drive train. CVT Electrics or the like will make smooth usable power. Bring it all on I say. And on both wheels well that would be sweet! As long as we all make some mention of the ride in the post it could be about anything. Yeah the weather was very good on the day  It would be a bit like a Seinfeld show the show about nothing! But I spose that is what you invented Cowpat corner for boon.

that 2wd bike would be a blast. I think the front wheel is run by hydrolic fluid,,,could be wrong????

Yeah the WRs were, only limited percentage to the front I think around 25 to 35% from memory

KTM are working on two new 2WD systems, one hydraulic and the other a hybrid with electric motors in each wheel.

The only thing wrong with the electric idea in each wheel is all that un-sprung weight. Even If the bike was lighter all up I think they would have trouble with suspension. Just thought I would throw that in to muddy the waters of this all over the shop thread.

The only reason he is looking so at ease with the bike is that he had just finished a 1 hr stress session of looking for it in the scrub! :silly: It is a look of relief! Hey snow have you been keeping up with this post as as you can see you need to hone your skills :woohoo:
