It certainly looks and sounds the goods but I think it could do with some bigger brakes on the front  Dont spend much time on the tar so i cant imagine i would get one. 150kph will do me just fine.

He Said something about the hard facing being only eight micons. once that is gone you can shim it but it will get out of spec so quick that you will get sick of shimming it.

While a Wauchoppe Went into Mud and Tar and saw the Gas Gas and you could have been the most limp wristed rider of all and you would have had no trouble with the clutch. I think the action was so light at high speed the clutch would have blown on. Very nice. There was a bike in the window that was sex on wheels cant remember what it was but it was 2T. But on the topic which has gone a little bit interesting i think Mr blue you are definately fishing with a huge net

The Head now has new Stainless valves and is ready to go back on.
I was told you could loose 1 HP with these valves but they are more durable.( I am not chasing power I want quiet and reliable) The valve seats were starting to lip out so they are now in the bin. I thought I did all the right things with regular oil changes and air filters, but 5500 ks and they are history. At least I didnt drop a valve I spose as for the age of the bike it might end up a wreck. I think in heindsight I would have done the valve work as it cost a mint on parts through a shop. Labour costs were neglegible. I saw some prices on line the other day and i think for the price i could have bought titanium valves. More posts later to update the “Idiots guide to top end rebuilds”.

I realise some of the comment have been written in jest but… This discussion has turned to blue againts orange. It was orignally PDS and ADB’s Subjectivity. PDS was created for a reason. Just like reverse engine config was. Weather it performs better than the old design will always be up for discussion. KTM have dropped the idea on some of their mx bikes. If yamaha drop the BTF engine I guess that will mean the advantages were not enough to justify the changes(or the GFC). After seeing TB’s post on the technic trip, having less bearings subject to water on an enduro/trail bike is a great idea. Dont know how often it happens but sometimes PDS unload unpredictively. Sometimes people ride around on linked bikes with the link totally seized and it breaks the link(I know this because it happened to a mates bike) Somebody has to try this stuff or we would still be riding bikes with springer front ends, points, twin rear shocks, drum brakes. If you dont like it vote with you feet an go somewhere else to buy a bike. KTM have enough loyal fans to get them through the R and D. Just as i will buy the next WR that comes out if it is based on the YZ. And i will have to suck up any tears associated with teething problems.

Before you get the wrong idea this is the offending article.
Because it is my first time with this sort of thing I noticed that you can fumble around in the shed for hours wondering if you are getting anywhere. Soafter looking at lots of books and the interweb I spent a long time pulling it off. I then gave head to Steve at cycletune. He said it was ok, but it needed to be a bit tighter. No liquid came out around the sides but he said with age it probably will soon. Will do a full write up on an amateurs view of a good head job after i go back to steve and see if i can pick up. I cant work out why i have to pay him so much when i am doing most of the work and pulling it to pieces myself

The manufacturers put stuff all grease in any of the bearings. I learned the hard way like Kram on the wr. I had to replace all the lower bearings. But i greased the new ones and really packed heaps in and they are going great. Those blokes sound like legends and the quality work seems to pay off with results. How they even built a flux capacitor is beyond me  Did they back the van in to keep prying eyes out?

I nearly stepped on one at my last ride. Bloody scary. It is the only occasion when it is acceptable to squeal like a 13 yr old girl. As long as your mates don’t hear you On that note was anybody watching 7’S sunrise when Grant Denyer while out in the outback retold the story of a snake in the camp. He said the guy walked up and cracked its head off like a whip. They are protected arn’t they? Imagine if he said the Koala walked into the camp looking for water so we bashed it with a stick until its head came off!!! We would never hear the end of it. I know this is what happens and the snake in our camp had a similar fate but i would not say that on TV.

Just a quick browse over ADB long term test bikes.
WR450 AKA ‘The Commodore.’ Oldie but a goodie. How it did so well on its last shootout is a mystery. The other manufacturers should take yamahas lead and only change the stickers. When your on a good thing stick to it.We know it is reliable so we will have to give them this one. The next update of it will either win it or bin it.
KTM 300 exe top of its class that is to be expected.
CRF 250 top of its class, also to be expected.
TE 250 I have heard one bad review out on the trails but cannot offer any rating. If I lived in Europe I would probaby own one.Cant remember what ADB said. Cant be bothered going through the magazine rack to find out.
Sherco 3.0i-F none of the testers rate them so if it wins a shoot out start the disbelieving! On that note look at the spec sheet and they seem to be the goods but rarely deliver in the tests.
Saying all that they must get hounded from people saying there latest test was rigged, because the bike they just bought was found wanting in some area. “What! The brochure said it was the best bike in the world!!!?
Also I have been found to be incorrect on more than one occasion, but that is just my opinion until some new info comes to light…. Like the truth

Hey NickJ I read that you were meeting in Orange. I put your trip in Google Maps and it said 820 K and it went through Tamworth. If you wanted you could stop for coffee and meet up with some of the tamworth boys? Just an idea to break up the trip. Hopefully Bol Boony or I could see you off or help out with any niggles that could develop.
