I have a couple of Trail Tech’s version of the same thing. They work fine although I haven’t measured their accuracy, not that I need to know exact revs anyway

Any bike can boil but usually DRZ’s are one of the last to go in a group. Get your mate to check his coolant mix ratio (might as well flush it while he’s at it) and put a new radiator cap on. A 50 / 50 mix and a 105 kpa cap lifts the boiling point to around 137 degrees. Thumpertalk have a good section on DRZ issues to keep an eye on too

I’ve had a look at the manual as its been a while since I’ve had the side cover off, and the stator attatches to the inside of the cover towards the middle of the cover. The only part that is near the cover in the damaged area is the flywheel. If its not rubbing then you should be good. If you turn the motor over (counterclockwise) with a socket through the hole in the middle of the cover you should be able to hear any rubbing noises. Seal the area with the epoxy but don’t build it up too much, leaving an area for the silicone or polyurethane sealant you use for the case saver. It will give you some buffer for when you bash in the case saver
My case savers had copped a bit of a pounding so I took them off for some panel beating and underneath was all good so they work
I hammered them back into shape and glued them back on, its a bugger to get all the silicone off though :unsure:

Get yourself a manual eg Clymer they give a step by step description of what you need to do
It will also help you with general maintenance of the bike.
If you have been riding with the crack and the oil is only seeping out then use an epoxy metal repair product (same as you would use as an emergency repair on the trails) and then when you get your case savers glue them on over the repair. I’m figurering if the damage was servere you would already know but a picture would be good

Laymans terms folks: have just enough air in your tyres so they slightly bulge when you sit on the big. I rarely use a pressure gauge.
Action – buy a front tyre that has nice sharp knobs. I have used Pirelli Scorpion MX Mid Soft, MX Extra and Dunlop 756 and MX 51.
I read more of the post and someone had posted a photo that gave a good idea
However I think your method will achieve the same results :cheer:

You should wear safety glasses when hitting any metal object, I had a splinter of steel off the head of a nail hit my eye years ago and had a trip to hospital to have it removed
