I landed awkwardly on a rock on a ride near Booral, and I stalled the bike. I went to re-start it and heard a noise, looked down and noticed oil on the ground. The brake lever had been pushed thru the clutch cover and opened up a 1 – 2 inch hole (the noise was the clutch touching the pushed in cover) :(

Long storey short new clutch cover $150 and Thumpertalk case savers (both sides). I had noticed dings in both case savers recently and have since removed them both (a bitch to scratch off all the silicone) and hammered them back into shape and re-glued them back on.

Did the case savers save me from more holes in the cases? Who knows however with all the silicone holding the case savers on even if you did crack the covers they would be unlikely to leak ;)

Ollie, Shirley St is not far away from me at all (about 500m in fact). Let me know when you have the urge for a ride up this way, and we’ll see what we can do.

Losta and I went for a spin thisarvo. It was pretty dam humid, we had stuff all rain today to settle the dust, but a bit of cloud cover to keep the temperature of us to just below boiling however the kato didn’t fare quite as well 😆 Losta showed me some singles that I didn’t know and visa versa, and found some neither of us knew about till today :) someones been busy out there ;)
It was good to work off the excesses of Christmas Day  Losta was trying out his new crissy present camera so if he had any success he said he would post a couple of happy snaps of me sweating out too many beers and bottles of wine from yesterday :(
All in all a good afternoon :cheer:

Would be happier with Monday as the forecast is for 24 degrees rather than the 31 forecast for Sunday. Also if the storms predicted for Sunday happen then hopefully less dust for Monday. Having said that I live in Ourimbah so its no effort to go either day as long as I finish cleaning up after Xmas day (shouldn’t be a problem  )

Just introduce him to some of your old buddies that used a little more than they should have. My 17 year old has met a couple of my old aquaintences from my past and wondered how they ended up how they did. They same old story, everything in moderation. Too much of a good thing usually is no good.

Sam assembled his 16′ one recently. It buckled up and kinked the pipes :( He ended up having to weld the kinked sections, however ended up putting it back together successfully :) Moral to this story? Assemble it on FLAT ground, follow the instructions and don’t attempt to move it without many hands. Had to tell him I TOLD YOU SO. We OLD bulls are much wiser than those YOUNG bulls :P

Merry Christmas and good luck 😆

I was speaking to Merv today and he is up for this ride too if there is still room (he’s only small so doesn’t take up much room) :P

Put Sam and myself down for this one. We had a ball on the last ride out there, looking forward to this one. Hope XR650Rob’s bike is going by then, but remember he needs to be kept separated from his mate Dave.

I have used a Hewlett Packard organizer for years. Recently I bought a Nokia N8 and it does what Nickj’s Iphone does as does most if not all the new smart phones available on the market.

I find that now only having one item to carry around a bonus however make sure you backup your info elsewhere as well ie sync to your computer. Don’t want all your eggs in one basket :(

If no one hears you are you really there?

I know everyone want’s to get the most from their bike and so usually put on a performance muffler. Unfortunately most performance mufflers are also loud. If you ride near suburban areas or have neighbours that complain get a quiet muffler and save the performance one for when your out in the boondocks.

We live on 3 acres, all the neighbouring properties have no fences over the other side of our creek so we end up with about 7 acres to ride on. New neighbours moved in (fortunately with bikes) and I made removeable muffler tips for them so the noise is kept low. When they want to go bush they just remove the tip. Sam has two mufflers one for home and one for bush, however if we’re riding near suburbia then the quiet one stays on.

It can be done. Its called comprimise. If you really need extra power and ride in noise sensitive areas get a bike with a bigger motor (read more power) and keep it quiet. ;)

in reply to: Buying Gear from OS, right thing to do? #190068

I buy most of my parts locally i.e. Central Coast. I believe in supporting the local community where I can. I have spoken to local dealers about OS prices and they agree that sometimes (most times) they find it hard to compete. I see part of the problem being the distributor / importer. Here in Australia we pay for the privilage for a distributor to import parts, add their percentage (100 or more %) then the dealers % on top of that. It beggars belief that a part can be shipped from China or Japan to the USA via a USA local shop then to Australia (to your front door) for less than a part bought by our local distributors and then sold to us by our local shop. This includes genuine parts from the major Japanese bike shops.

Someone must be making some dollars however it appears its not the local shop.

Competition will eventually dictate the market. Hopefully the local market can rearrange itself to remain competitive and still in business. A person will pay a small amount extra to support the local guy however when big dollars are involved the hip pocket speaks loudest.

Well thats my opinion anyway
