I have ridden with other Bergs, and having owned that berg, I find they all get hot, even the KTM’s on the same trails. I found the biggest issue seemed to be if you do tight single and then stop dead. I know it sounds odd, but so often people stop right after a tough tight spot. Most guys I ride with do a tough bit of single then cruise some firetrail’s to cool the rider and the bike, catch your breath then dive into more single. I find if I am burning up and need air flow so does the bike, so I keep rolling for a minute and feel a million bucks.
Having said that I had it overheat one weekend a few times, only one weekend in around 1000 K’s of riding, and valley force replaced what was a faulty pump impeller (Key way let go faulty part form factory eventually let go slowing flow right down), so now theres definitely no pump, flow, or radiator issue now or any time soon.
The KTM and Berg 4Ts just lack water volume, so in really slow stuff turning the bike off straight after means the head will overheat the water in the jacket.
Thats why heaps of berg and KTM guys on DBW use Engine Ice. Its that temperature spike when stopping that biol’s it. The bike when running in 99% of cases is not overheating, you keep moving they don’t boil, so getting better coolant will get over that short stress point when the water stops flowing across a full temperature cylinder. There a few threads running now with guys exploring this on Berg and KTM’s with some going the fan. I never liked the idea of the fan on a berg as when your stopped it chews the battery up, and there aint no kick starter…….unless they turn off when the motor is off, which then just leads to a more stable coolant being needed to hang in there for the few minutes until the barrel cools.

only 103kg, plenty nimble and good for singles,
ergonomically similar to the bergs too

Cheers, Damo…
Good idea on the photo, its easier to advise when we can see the entry point, some boots I have had or seen do have thick plastic all around the foot and ankle, and front of shin, but it depends on the entry point of the stick if that’s gunna be any help.
Another idea would be to take the boot to a trusted bike shop (One that does not just want a sale but wants to help) and show them, then ask them to show you a better boot and explain how and why it would have potentially prevented it, if they don’t convince you then don’t buy the boots.
Cheers.
Thanks to all for a great day and great first ride with the OLD BULLS.
Great Job AIDO, good effort getting the crew together for a top turnout for such a hot day.
Great summary Menace, like a good movie trailer you got all the highlights, it was definitely a funny day. :silly:
Sorry JAK for the wait mate, I added a few minutes myself when pointed out a track and taking off up a hill (Poor mance was buggered after going up and then down again after chasing me to nicely say “wrong way dikhed”) , all part of the mayhem of the morning run that you got to see unfold as we slowly re-grouped in the car park.
The second round of runs too and from the pub ran smooth, with corner system and sweep, and keeping that flow was great to keep cooler, it was actually not to bad in the forest but that powder dust Menace mentioned was full on.
The Corona’s on ICE were liquid gold on a hot dusty day! Thanks Menace….. :cheer:
Seen as your looking, the Berg’s might be a good next bike for you Aido!! the EFI means no manual choke mate, you know, that knob that makes hill climbs really hard
Looking forward to the next ride with the Bulls, Cheers guys.

I agree big Husky, if your trail riding for pleasure there’s no point taking unnecessary risk, especially if miles from help.
I also find though, that logs do come up, even when you don’t want them, and usually when your rooted, so technique is important then as being skilled reduces the risk in the same way avoiding where possible does.
Having done some MX a decade or more ago, and getting into trail riding last year, I find Logs, diagonal roots and small logs, and steep hills are a special skill, and scare the crap out of me which makes me determined to neat them. Once confident you can do them pretty safely.
I tried another Pony-X at Black Sands recently because I am stupid, the first straight was up hill and had 3 logs in a row, about knee height, spaced just far enough that if you got off balance on one you were stuffed on the next. I also found after the rain and storms in the bush rides, like in the Pony-X, there were logs and no choice or way round, so I was rapt that I did some practice when I came across them and had where I had time to turn around for a few goes.
I am no expert, and have seen guys do the technique where you clip the front wheel and jump the whole thing, no case contact at all (David Knight is good to google doing this or trial riders who moved to trail riding do it too). But the gentle pop over of the front wheel, at a steady pace to allow momentum to prevent you stopping half way when you cant touch the ground, is pretty easy and repeatable and you land and slide the case but no huge smash (I would not dream of trying a log as big as in the photo though, if its much bigger than the front wheel I aint so keen). I try to go on little rides now to work on obstacles more than just doing a heap of kilometres and going over anything once as it comes up on a loop.
I suppose that’s a long winded way to encourage you to have a go, find a bit of a challenging log, and just play with no pressure, then when you don’t have a choice on a ride, you will be stoked you put some time in “Just in case”.
Cheers.

Have been doing some good riding around Castlemaine, found a sweet hill called “widow maker”. getting some good tracks organised for wetter times, sh#ts all over wombat. :kiss:Hi Gob70,
I have also ridden Castlemaine, with some guys from DBW (Hound5 & Bubba). Awesome place, and those guys both live there and know all the good stuff including Widow Maker.
I reckon they would be more than happy to meet some new people so I could givem a buzz and see if they would show us around if some Bulls are keen??? (Maybe early Feb??), would be looking at an L3 roughly, most of the tech stuff has a way round so you can try what you want really.
Cheers.
