I’m a walking talking example of how tech help here worked and although experience helps retain the knowledge I couldn’t have experienced what I did without the guidance I had from this place. Certainly makes the donation I made before I even settled in seem insignificant when you consider the cost of trying to learn that stuff without friends that can help.

I recall posting on another site asking how to remove my exhaust and it took about a week to get a serious response and as a result I missed the next morning’s ride where if someone had’ve given me the answer I needed it would’ve taken 5 minutes to change the exhaust instead of half a carton. Granted that may happen here if you accidentally post outside the tech help forum if you get that much right you’re almost guaranteed a running start.

Muchos gracias a los toros viejos!

What a team of good blokes, go ahead and do it Ontherun as Murph said you have done it almost once already. Get the piston organised, get it bored by a machine shop to suit the piston and away you go. If you get stuck post up we have rebuilt AB’s bike here god knows how many times  Murph will help you out, take some pics and tell us how it went you will be fine mate.

    Good on everyone

My bike has never been rebuilt ;)

My old bike on the other hand….. :D Of course if I asked the right questions the first time it would’ve only been rebuilt once and technically I suppose it was but steps 4 through to 10 were probably repeated two or three times :P

Mind you I gave the new buyer the old piston and rings as spares as there was not a problem with it. I only rebuilt it because I wanted to eliminate that as the problem and with the head off it was suggested I may as well do it.

I’ve heard good things about these guys but haven’t used them myself. You might be able to get someone locally though – any suggestions guys?

I think this is the best answer. Keep all your bits safe and organised (parts that is) and unless it’s demolished then pulling it apart should give you a good idea how to put it back together – its called reverse engineering.

I’ve never done bearings though – don’t you need a press and also some pretty accurate measurements beyond end gap etc. ????

I’ve given a couple of times and trying to develop a habbit out of it. They were coming around to our work but have stopped now for some reason.

This seems like a good buy TB you’d just have to have it shipped over.

Had one of those mornings last thursday. I slept like crap all night then straight through my alarm so I was flustered at the get go. As I was driving the ute out of the garage I bumped the remote close button and thought I could make it but the rear roof rack caught the door and bent it as it ripped the roof rack off. End result was a bent garage door and a dinted scar along the corner roof line of the ute. Then the garage door wouldn’t close so I had to do some panel beating but I’d left the hammer somewhere and since I was now steaming like a kettle I was doing a good demo job on everything in the garage but not so good at finding the hammer which was a good thing by that stage because I felt like finishing the ute off with it.

Brownie points all weekend and that knackered me enough ;)

Dropped my pipe off and apparently it’s now almost back to its original shape so I’ll be getting off my arse and getting a pipe guard. $120 ain’t bad though considering it needed a weld too!

I’ll switch you the taxi for the ute if you trust me! I might need to re-attach the roof rack that got ripped off this morning though so you have somewhere to put them.

You don’t unless you know how to write the bbcode which is pretty easy. Generally involves a bit of copy+paste tho.
