Cool mate not a worry.
Just got a PM from sb_250y so that’s 4 sets and 6 more to go.
I’d prefer if you posted up guys it’ll be easier for me to go back through all the requests that way rather than having to track them down.
Thanks
I only saw one at first but there’s more now. Bit concerned that there’s now 2 pics of me going the bathroom and another of me in my speedos. What about my image!
Mate she was off looking at houses all weekend so if I ignore her I’m likely to end up coming home to removalists asking me how I’d like my bike transported to our new house she’d just bought! I have no misconceptions I tell ya

The boys did head counts through the day but it was a good flowing group so the next stop was some time away. Nothing that can be done about that I reckon.
Again internet doesn’t get the full message across but I want to be clear that this is just an extra step that *might* help but we need to leave the knee jerk reactions to the pollies (Tony Abbot impersonator only in appearance, not behaviour!) and keep on doing what we’ve done all this time but armed with the knowledge of what you can expect if the moons align once again and things go slightly out of shape.
We wouldn’t be out there doing this if it was a perfectly safe sport but in saying that if something might help I think we can give it a try.
My opinion without too much thought would be to have LEAD or SWEEP in big letters – really all you need to register is that you’ve spotted one or the other and that should trigger the brain to switch from lets hoon mode to hey should I pass this guy or hold back.
What I think TB is rightfully edging at is that we can’t develop systems for everything and switch off the brain because it won’t work! Use your head first and if there are some helpful bits for the bigger rides with strangers than that might help but you still can’t rely on them.
Part of the beauty of it I thought was that people you come across would not only see the group of riders with shit eating grins and/or tears were all from OBT and also that they were on a well organised group ride not just a bunch of mugs.
I recognise it’s a challenge to get them to rides but I think it’d be up to individuals – if they want to have them on their rides they should be willing to pay the small fee to have a set in their kit bag and they can supply them to whoever is sweeping/leading for the day. It might be that on one ride 8 blokes have vests each but that won’t matter obviously.
I’ve never had to pay for a vest but I can’t imagine they’d charge much if you were buying say 30 of each colour and then a few bucks per letter for the OBT etc and I reckon $40 would be plenty. Of course that’s straight out of my posterior though but if that’s the case then even if you never lead people should be willing to contribute for the sake of those that do lead them and for their own effort towards keeping them safer. As for sweeping, well everyone should have a go at this, perhaps not if you’re a noob but eventually you need to pull your weight.
I’m about to duck out but when I return I’ll see if I can chase up some information.
In the mean time would any of you be interested in paying that sort of money to have them in your kit for a ride?
Cheers.
I was thinking it’d be a good way of promoting old bulls, that is get some vests made up with the name on there and “leader” or “sweep” if you like. I’d be happy to chip in as a token of my appreciation for the search party as well as all the other good work that others do and I benefit from.

Funny you say that considering my pipe has taken more hits than the hippy I ran into and even has a pinhole in it now! It certainly isn’t lacking in power anywhere though and if it was then thank the bike gods otherwise I could’ve ended up half way up a tree! It does feel spot on and I changed the suspension settings for the weekend and I think they were great. Given that I’m the limiting factor in how well my bike handles I can’t say for sure it handled better but I think it did and I also know that I wasn’t as knocked around in the upper body as I have been on previous rides with it though that might be that I’ve started to get more comfortable using rear brake which puts the force lowere and through the bike and body rather than straight over the bars and into your arms/shoulders. Of course squeezing the bike with your knees helps but without rear brake you really belt yourself especially on downhills.
Couple of other things I learnt or put into practice over the weekend:
[ol]smooth application of the throttle is key. – still working on this as I tend to blip it too much [/ol]
[ol]when you ride ruts don’t look at them, look past them and power out – this worked a treat.[/ol]
[ol]Riding on the pipe in 5th on the road for 20kms chews your tyre – time for another scorpion I think[/ol]Trailboss wrote:

The day my KTM got towed out of the bush was my first 2 day riding weekend and I was thinking to myself “how good is this I’m surprised I was fit enough to do this and what a great weekend of riding this has been” and then my bike stopped. No bs, before realising I was separated I was thinking to myself “what another great weekend of riding, oh wait don’t say that last time you did it all ended in tears.” Then not 10minutes later I realised I was lost. Damn well jinxed myself!
It seems he didn’t and I’m not completely surprised because if I’m guessing correctly he was doing his best to cross a gnarly river and probably didn’t notice me. That’s all I can put it down to really.
Nah I reckon that’s right. As I said you need to be prepared and by talking this stuff through before you go out and sit on your bike all pumped for a wicked group ride it gives it a better chance to become entrained in your reaction process.
I tell you what I’m no martyr but sheeez have I had some situations in the bush! I’m lucky in that they’ve all ended as well as they could have but crikey noone will be game to ride with me with this reputation!
 got home and the missus wanted me to sit down with her and talk about what she did for the weekend since I didn’t get home till late sunday. I reckon if I walked into the garage she might’ve set fire to it so I stayed well away sorry mate.
