I’m keen. I might be a bit gumby trying to keep pace while getting used to the 2 stroke but if you can put up with that I’ll join you.

Ok so far for monday I have:

    Austblue
    Ben 525
    Allmech + 2
    Highlander

Starting from the pines and picking up the singles from there. I plan on starting early but highlander is coming from the blue mountains so I’ve told him that we’ll loop back to the pines and get him around 9am I’d like to start up there about 630 ready to ride if you’re keen for that.

Spot the bike here! I wasn’t on this ride but I liked the pics and thought you guys would too. It was at menai and I read that he missed the corner and went straight in!

I expect to be staying the night for ollie’s ride. I’m trying to recall what I organised back when this went up but IIRC I originally planned to ride the sunday and was happy to get on the saturday as well.

I just want to be the first bloke that’s won an aussie race on a 2 stroke that’s all! Aren’t we all here to prove each other wrong? :p

I do enjoy competition and appreciate there’s a lot of cost for the trophy but that’s not what I’m after. FWIW I used to race water skiis back when I was young enough that it cost my dad a boat load of money for my trophies but I did it for the enjoyment and pride of having hard work paying off – not the trophy. I can still smell the av gas that would be polluting the air before every race. I still remember puking on my wetsuit because I was so nervous and excited but I couldn’t sit up because I was strapped into my race ski and laying on the back of the boat ready to motor out into the deep start. I still remember screaming in pain for over 60kms along the grafton river because my bindings were too tight but still smiling and patting my ski partner on the back as we crossed the finish line.

As per the riding alone discussion – there’s a lot of different views on what is an acceptable risk or in this cast cost versus reward.

Here’s a free lesson for this bloke and us about how dangerous acts when riding. In this case it was the solo rider that was in the wrong but I dare say it’d usually be the solo rider cruising on the left shoulder and the group leader smoking around the corner the fastest way possible.

Rat and I have exchanged emails and respect each other’s views. And just so it is clear I’m not promoting riding alone, just pointing out that we all share a common interest in what is unarguably a dangerous pass time and riding alone isn’t necessarily the most dangerous way to enjoy it.

I’d imagine you’d have to make your own number plate though which would mean blank background in whatever colour (still unusure on that) and some electrical tape I suppose.

some rough terrain in there! I recall a japanese enduro vid that was like a blooper reel – the poor buggers look like they’d never seen bush before and were getting axed left right and centre!

    Just food for thought.

EPIRBs? If you happen to have one go missing I’d love a christmas present!

Rat, your soap box rant is a tad silly IMHO. I mean some people are taking less of a risk riding alone than others are riding in a group based on their risk controls so if you’re going to get stuck into strucky you should really put your cape on and take on the world while you’re at it. I think go ahead and point out the obvious risk in it and state your opinion on it but getting stuck into him and calling him an idiot is no different to a greenie saying serves you right for braking your leg and bleeding out while your 15 ride buddies look at each other for what to do under the argument that it is a “stupid” risk to ride a motor bike through tight tree lines.

FWIW I’ve ridden alone twice and both times I compensated to control the risk. I took a demo bike out by myself the other week at Kitchener and took my phone, a GPS, told my wife and the bike shop I’d be in contact within half an hour and always stayed near by the road. I’m not going to claim that I eliminated the risk but we all know of and accept levels of risk in riding and other activities daily.

I acknowledge I’m only a young bull and you might claim I’m being naive but I’m just calling it as I see it and with an open mind.

Yeah I figured that based on the references to working together. All the same Dave’s posts carry a serious tone with nay a smiley plonked in each of his first 2 posts!

Big thanks to the owners, admin and all of the old bulls that have contributed to such a great year of riding, assistance and mateship. I’ve seen first hand a huge amount of great character from some of you and it’s a great feeling, probably something like the feeling murph had last night :p

I reckon the donations thread should be bumped in the new year or even earlier while we’re all in the generous spirit though I’m sure most of us are broke!

The following info may also be important:

The following may be checked on your machine at scrutineering or at an equivalent test:
    – noise emissions do not exceed 95dba at 30 metres
    – throttle must be self closing
    – brake and clutch free play and effectiveness
    – wheel and frame bearings
    – chain adjustment
    – no fluid leaks (oil, coolant, brake fluid)
    – handlebar ends must be plugged and hand levers must be ball ended
    – centre and side stand removal (except Moto Trials and Enduro machines)
    – nitrous oxide and nitro methane is allowed in drag racing and speed record attempts
    only

can anyone point out where you can get noise tested? My 300 seems bloody loud for a stock bike and I guess since they’re raced in NSW they must comply but I’d prefer to do the checks before I show up to scrutineering in case the silencer needs some work.
