I know the trick with the ktm tensioner and that’s seperate to the chain. I couldn’t find any detail in the manual because it only approaches assembly from scratch so the side covers and timing idler gear are all off.

I’ll have a chat with the guys at the shop I suppose – if it is an endless chain I guess that’ll mean a fair bit more work.
This is what it looks like though IIRC.

Picked it up today and it’s firing great. The mech said it had a poor spark when he tested it and found that the point had a dodgy connection but it’s all good now. Just a shame I didn’t get it back in time for saturday! I’ll probably take it for a late night run to break it in tonight then I’ll be riding sunday if anyone is keen.

Water pump seal was very difficult to remove but I got it done and once back together it sounded fine and the oil looked good but it didn’t want to start. I ended up putting it in the shop and I just got a call saying that it was a dodgy spark plug connection. I checked that it was getting a spark but noted that it didn’t look great when I dropped it off but there’s no way I wouldve truly known that was the problem.

I’m riding sunday if anyone is keen! Rain, hail, shine, group or solo I’m gonna flog the guts out of the bitch!!!

Turns out it had a dodgy spark plug connection. I’ll have to chat with the mechanic more when I pick it up for more details. I did check and it was sparking but tbh I’m no expert at knowing if there’s a problem – it sparked so i thought it was ok.

I also need a new cam chain soon – are they difficult to fit?

What GPS did you use to log the trip TW? I’m pretty convinced I need to pick up a 60csx so I can track the rides with you blokes and head back out there to learn them myself.

I run my gopro upside down under my V3 visor and find that its great there. Judging by the way the V3 parachutes at speed I’d say the visor sits higher than most helmets though. I’ve got a pic on my camera I’ll just have to find the memory card reader and I’ll post.

Finally got around to uploading this picture!!! I think it looks as though it’d be a nuisance in my field of view but I don’t notice it up there.

The way it was behaving I think the chain must be stretched but I don’t think this would cause it not to start and the mech said the same. They were busy but hoped to get to look at it today and let me know what they think is wrong.

I’m going to need counselling soon, that’s the second week in a row I’ve missed a ride because of this problem! I priced a new 250 with the 280 kit while I was there yesterday but its far too much for me to justify at the moment.

I’m beat :( I sat up till 2am putting it all back together and replacing the water pump seal and it all seemed to go well but once I was done I couldn’t get it to kick over.

One thing I noticed which doesn’t seem right is that the cam chain seems like its not lining up during certain parts of the stroke. I marked the chain before I took it off and I’m confident I set the cam chain tensioner correctly but at a particular part of the stroke the chain lifts on the gears and is slightly slack between the gears. I checked my marks and the chain is still in the correct spot so I’m not positive this is the problem but I’m lost anyway.

To make matters worse I’ve stuffed my neck too :( I’ll be taking the bike to KTM this morning to see what they can do for me but I’m flat out at work so I don’t think I’ll be able to give it too much attention today.

Its not :(

No bad noises but its not starting and I’m too tired to figure out why :(

I’m out for now but I’m taking the bike to the mechanics this morning so we’ll see what they can come up with.

I know when I’m whooped :(

My weekend was almost sabotaged! I went to pick up my parts today and they had ordered the wrong water pump seal kit! They were just about to order one express from WA when I suggested that they check if there was any out with the mechanics and sure enough they had one! I’m still nervous about starting the bike after my first rebuild though!

That’s a bit rough – If you’re reading this, the bill – I think everyone here will agree that police presence at our riding spots only helps the good guys and from what we shared via PM it certainly seemed like that was your approach. I understand you probably can’t be too open about things on here but I think if you introduced yourself a little it’d help people understand that you weren’t here to be big brother watching us. Personally I thought that was pretty clear by the fact that you told us you’d be up there ;)

Cheers.

Nice collection of toys mate! Would love to head out on an old bulls marlin day and wouldn’t mind riding your bikes too!

Welcome to the site.
