Fastways are bringing it up tomorrow for $30 – not worth stuffing around for that much and I’ll have it in by the weekend.

Greg’s already called me to tell me it’s done! I had KGB (kieren) drop it off for me yesterday and it sounds as though he’s put a new insert in which gives the bolt a new seat and he’s pressure tested it and believes that it should be all good. Cost for the work was only $90 and he’s just chasing down a courier that will bring it back up to me because it is ~30kg and not all of them will do it. He’s suggested I flush it with kero about 3 times just to make sure there’s no krud in it – this could be an interesting task! I’ll have to pack the engine up on my ute tray/work bench so it’s tilted down then its game on!

Now to organise a ride for the 22nd/23rd!

I noticed on the weekend that the padding on my scott goggles is coming apart after only probably 6 months of pretty gentle care.

Only issue I have is my kick start is already chopped up from them! Any tips to save my kicker from getting worn through other than fix the magic button which I’m also doing?

Just to be clear in case people don’t read that whole post above – the local blokes didn’t cause the issue, it was already there and they did their best to fix it for me.

I might post this in the 1st post to ensure its clear I don’t want mud sticking to the good guys.

I bought my bike 2nd hand and it had already had a helicoil installed by a store in Liverpool. They also did the rebuild and receipts show there was only 200kms put on the freshy when I bought it yet the bore was out of round and the cam chain was out of sync. When I learnt of these last two issues I rang them and questioned them about it and they said too bad stick it up your arse and I’d already made the decision not to give to them again anyway. I’ve since learnt that shop has an established reputation for doing very poor work and not standing by it. If anyone wants to know the name of the shop I’m happy to PM or tell you next ride but I’d rather not post it and cause any trouble to the old bull site.

When I stripped the bolt I was surprised because I hadn’t put much tension on it. When the KTM blokes took a look they found and reported to me that there had been a dodgy helicoil installation on an angle and that’s why it stripped and thrashed the bolt. The installed a new helicoil to see if it’d seal and I found that it did with no pressure or temp but once the crank case built pressure it weeped oil. I trust the local blokes that did the work but I’m a tad confused why it didn’t leak before. Only reason I can come up with is that the shitty bolt had wore to become an angled thread and sealed.

I also prefer to do my own work so I know if something isn’t 100% and when I saw the angle I was hesitant but figured that it’d sealed well before so should be fine otherwise I would’ve had it down to Greg straight away. Unfortunately I’m not set up to tap my own thread and I certainly feel that I’m in better hands with Greg than my own doing this type of work so I’m leaving it with him.

Thanks Blue, but its a bit hard to make out.

Yeah sorry that’s all I’ve got but I’ll try to remember to get a pic tonight. Its just mounted upside down under the visor peak so not much to see I think.

I pulled the motor last night without a worry – took me 2hours this time and because I like to set myself little challenges I decided to put my head lamp somewhere safe on the weekend and couldn’t find it so I was working under a 40 w globe and a shitty torch that keeps draining its batteries within a couple of hours use.

Thanks for the well wishes guys I’ll post back when I have an update.

p.s Thanks for the tip Ollie I’ll have a word with Greg but I’m sure he’s capable of fixing that up for me.
