Less inertia plus less stroke travel means that it’ll rev faster won’t it?

The guys at KTM were telling me that its not a strick 390 just a sleeved 450 with a shorter stroke :(

Shame really but we’ll see how it goes.

As if I wasn’ already unsure enough, I had someone send me the specs on the kinchrome one I linked and I’m positive the “example torque settings” diagrams are wrong! haha :D I’ll see if I can find the spec sheet online.

Hmmm…. I had looked at the W&B stuff but that’s $220 for that one at Just tools. I know they last if you look after them its just that i’ve made a list of bits that I want and it’s up over $3k :(

Haha the yamaha blokes must’ve liked my idea! The latest cycle torque has a short article on yamaha’s new motor config which is reversed :)

YAMAHA is taking off road motorcycles to a new level. These spy pics reveal Yamaha is planning to release an all new YZ450F for 2010.

The big thing is the engine will be turned around, with the exhaust pipe exiting straight back from the reverse cylinder head and the fuel injection facing forward for better access to fresh air.

There looks to be a heap of other changes, including a new rear subframe and front chassis design.

It isn’t the first time Yamaha has tried this technology, with the TZ GP bikes utilising this basic design many years ago. Other niche off-road manufacturers have dabbled with it also but Yamaha will be the first to try it on such a large scale.

The jury is out on whether there’s other design benefits or if it’s mainly for marketing, but Yamaha is holding the Australian launch just after we go to press with the August issue so we’ll see if all the hype is real.

I hate to make comment on something when some of the facts are missing or even unclear, but if you knew your mates were coming the other way you’d be going pretty slow and cautious right? I guess that doesn’t stop the blokes that don’t know that you’re coming back at them from doing enough speed to cause death. Real tragedy when you hear these sorts of things and as much as you can’t focus solely on the negative possibilities I really think more people need to keep this type of collision in mind when they’re belting any trails that allow you to get up past 2nd gear.

RIP and yeah ride safe guys!

Carb?! What carb??? they’re EFI mate that’s the beauty of it and also the only reason why I asked the question on this bike and not all bikes ;)

Congrats mate! I will have owned my bike a year in a couple of weeks too and its been great getting into the sport and I’m looking forward to more frequent rides soon so hopefully can put at least 5k on it per year.

    I assume you’re back now?

Thanks guys awesome effort so far! I’m 99% sure that I hadn’t taken the clutch slave cyl out at that point but I’ll take a look to be sure. I noticed yesterday that a rod had slid out of the clutch a bit and just slid it back in but don’t know if that’s a problem.

I thought the same about the ratchet and looked at one of them but I’ll take another look at them and be sure.

Does anyone have a jig made up for working on their bike like this? I’ve knocked the bloody thing off the stand twice now – first time it smashed my plastic draw which I was using as a bolt tray and the second time it belted my fold out tool box so I had to panel beat that.

Ballards have a nice unit for about $230+delivery which is a scissor jack and looks to clamp onto the foot pegs. I’m just spending Australia out of the recession lately and I’m also looking at knee braces and a trailer so I was hoping for something a little cheaper.

You might be onto something with that! I had taken the spring off the foot brake lever and removed the rear master cyl. Is there a bearing in that? I’ll take a look in the manual now.
